We can stock everything exactly where it belongs all night long, as soon as the first customer walks in the store things get picked up and moved around
Some nights we can fill a grocery cart with go-backs that we found scattered out of place on the shelves
Gives the courtesy clerks during the day something to do
In my dad’s store a woman found a coat that had been misplaced on a sale rack. My mom explained that it wasn’t on sale. The woman was not pleased. She said, “I can make you sell it to me for that price.” My mom, in a calm but firm voice replied, “How?”
I used to work at a Pet store that had one of those “lovely” cards that you needed to get the sales. Always constant would we cashiers and stockers get complained to and yelled for " Your card". Sigh….they acted like WE thought of the idea. Once, I did actually say “Sir, I PERSONALLY did not start this card idea. I am just a lowly cashier. I can give you the number for corporate for that’s where it came from.”. They don’t like hearing that. They just want to yell at you for you’re right there. It’s so unfair how people way up in corporate get to come up with crappy ideas and the poor low people on the totem poll get all the crap from customers. Sigh….

Customers don’t “think” anything. Customers “know” everything. And there are no Managers ever available in a store, they’re in a “meeting”

It is annoying to be the clerk, but really, if someone has a problem or question, who else can they talk to about it?
