What did we breathe before they discovered oxygen?

In most big cities the air is brown. I can see it.

It’s black. Those who can’t see thru air are called blind.

Next question. Agnes is on a roll.

It would be greyish brown, the color of lint and dust.

Think it’s sort of brownish, like meat. Indeed, there are places where you can cut off a slice and chew on it.

Chlorine is odorless? It’s not colorless either.

In their liquid form Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide, Argon and Water are all colorless.Liquid Oxygen is Sky Blue.

and here I thought everyone had these special powers to see through air. ...

so I won’t mention that I can see through air. Though it is difficult when the sky insists on falling. (rain, snow, you know, that stuff)

I like Agnes’ answers best but if we could not see through air, we would not have eyes. There are many wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation which we can not detect but they are usually too weak because air blocks them. Interestingly we COULD see ultraviolet but our corneas block it. We can feel infrared but not see it.

Chlorine gas is a pale greenish yellow color.
