When I was their age, I carried all my treasures in a tiny paper sack that had come from the hardware store: a deck of cards, a cool rock from the alley out back and a fishing sinker.

What to get somebody who has nothing: no place to keep it.

At their age… pockets do good. Unless you tend to pick up a lot of interesting things you find along the roadside and in the parks and woods where you walk. Then a rucksack will do well. grab a pillowcase, fold over the hem at the opening, sew it down. Cut 2 slits, one on either side of a seam and thread a cord through from one slit to the other. Tie the ends of the cord together and there’s your rucksack, satchel, bag.

Of course, rucksacks do nothing for the frogs and snakes you might find along your walk.

True, but hopeless can stop you from even trying.

You believe the Dutch had no feeling? Why would you think that? They resisted because they cared and hoped.
