    Good feet and legs: reliable transportation. I miss the freedom of my bike, but the traffic is pretty nasty anymore what with all the cellphone and texting use.

    Better to invest in a good helmet than a good bike. Seriously. She can probably find wheels in the same dumpster where she found that guitar.

    Yes, it can be very sad. Agnes is very in-your-face about poverty. But it also invites you to share Agnes’s and Trout’s little victories. There’s a little of the “We never knew we were poor during the depression” thing going on, too. There’s a great and marvelous dignity in children’s naïveté. Don’t worry, be happy. It just never pays to be too sad too long.
