“Nice try. Did that anonymity help in court? No? There.”

“Sorry, we don’t seem to have a file on you.” – “But there has to be one!!!” – “Seriously – we don’t have a file named ‘Anonymous’.”

Just make it sound like you are a machine and tell them to give you all important information at the sound of the beep.

Been there. Some of these people are actually astonished that their attorney has (gasp) other clients! I lost my cool one time and said “your one case doesn’t pay all the bills. Of course he has other clients!”

You’re not wrong, Amanda. I tell people who I am when I answer the phone and it p*sses me off no end when the other party doesn’t identify themselves. There’s one heifer who works at my vet who never identifies herself. But I always know it’s her because (besides the fact that I know her voice), she’s the only one there who doesn’t tell you who she is.

You know, back in the olden days, when I was in elementary school, they actually taught us PHONE ETIQUETTE!! Amazing concept, isn’t it. It taught us all that the person on the phone can’t see us, probably won’t recognize us by our voices, and won’t want to talk to some stranger for no reason. Isn’t that just QUAINT?

Nowadays, everyone has a phone of some kind (well, almost everyone), and yet no one seems to have any idea how to interact with other people on the phone. And then people want you to tell them everything without giving you any clue about what they want.

Go to your local school board meetings – DEMAND that they put phone etiquette back on the curriculum! Before the last person who learned it dies!

Yeah, I’ve gotten one too many scammers lately, the last one started the conversation with “Hey Grandma, it’s me”. I have no children, thus no grandchildren, so I hung up on the twit.

I just checked. They do still teach phone etiquette – IN BUSINESS SCHOOLS!! I’m so sorry you had to deal with this crap, Amanda. People obviously don’t learn how to adult until college now. You have my greatest respect for not tracking down the idiots and bashing some sense into their pointy heads.
