Many, many years ago, in the 70’s Andy and Chalkie were walking down the street.. Andy says to his friend, cheer up lad, a few years ago we were drunken, lazy layabouts. Today we are unfortunate victims of the economic condition!
In the “real” world Andy probably would be of retirement age. So how much would he receive being on the “dole” most of his life? I don’t think he worked enough to get unemployment so it had to be on what the US calls welfare.

I’m sure Flo heard every word, Andy… and rolled her eyes after what YOU said.

I know this strip started many years ago, but now, Andy could just claim to be a stay-at-home dad, if he and Flo ever had any kids…

Panels #1 & #2 are superfluous and aren’t needed at all for the gag. I’m with Number Six on this one, 1.5/10 !

I remember an Andy Capp comic where Andy comes across a beggar with a sign reading “unemployed” and Andy says “Me too. Smashin’, isn’t it!”
