So—just lock him up in solitary! He won’t be missed—except by a few readers of this strip, LOL.

An interesting way to illustrate a courtroom scene.

Andy’s close enough to the judge to spit in his face.

In the first panel, Andy is exclaiming “Eek!” as he reads a letter in the hall way.

In the second panel, Andy is disclosing its contents to Chalkie while they’re walking down the street.

“I’m real worried, Chalkie, l ‘ad a letter from a bloke this mornin’ – says ’e’ll punch me ‘ead in if l don’t stay away from ’is missus.”

In the third panel, Chalkie advises him to “Stay away.”

In the final panel, Andy replies, “Ow can l?? ‘E didn’t sign ‘is flippin’ name!”

Capp is cleaned up very nicely for the judge. Shaved, scarf perfectly folded. A man of Class is Capp. Off to the Rose and Crown to celebrate his release.

Solitary jumps to mind.

Would you want to have Andy Capp as a cellmate? Methinks, NOT!!

I wouldn’t smirk like that if I were in your shoes, Andy!

I’d think a cellmate would appreciate Andy’s company. All the stories he could tell, both real and fictitious would certainly pass the time.

Shouldn’t he take off that hat while he’s in the courtroom? Might help his chances more.

I guess the judge is expecting to joint him.

Nothing two years hard labor breaking rocks would not cure.

If the judge had a friend who owned a pub (and Andy was a bit more responsible), said judge might refer Andy to the pub.

Sound like having Andy for a cellmate would qualify as cruel and unusual punishment.
