I could move to Japan, live there for 20 years, and never be Japanese. I could move to Ireland, live there 20 years, and never be Irish. But a Japanese or Irish person can move to the United States, live here a few years, apply, and become a citizen. After that, regardless of where were born, they are as American as I am (and I am descended from Massachusetts Bay colonists, from a Revolutionary War veteran, from a signer of the Declaration of Independence (Robert Morris), and soldiers on both sides of the Civil War.)And I love that about our country. It is what sets us apart and makes our country strong.

Being from another country seems so exotic and exciting, but it’s not as interesting as we think it would be.

Your American. Be proud of your heritage. It took races from all over the world to make up America. That’s not disappointing.
