Comic strip time is elastic.. Don’t assume our day passing means 24 hours has gone by for Arlo and Janis.
In last Monday’s strip, Arlo asked Janis a question and almost started to laugh at her answer. The next day’s strip showed him reaching for a “save”…. probably 10 seconds later…
but I think she was already a bit hurt….she walked away, he followed…so she picked at him a bit.
We watched the moment unfold, all the way through Friday’s strip…But for them it wasn’t “all last week”… I don’t even think it was an hour.
Cloud came, cloud drifted away.
Arlo and Janis have a great relationship, one that’s famous amongst comic strip readers for its warmth and sexuality, even in middle age.
But Jimmy is pretty realistic.Janis may be experiencing some mood swings common to women her age…or she might have just been expressing a moment’s annoyance. They’ve been together many years, and never faltered… they have a son they love, a nice house, and what seems to be relative economic security…and they truly LIKE each other.
Robin is a brand new character we hardly know… who … yeah…. sort of looks a lot like Janis, probably just cos that’s the way Jimmy draws women.
Why some people are imagining or urging an affair, or see every petty argument as reason to leave each other, is truly beyond me.
Do you leave, or cheat on, your long-term partner any time there’s a disagreement?Would you trade in your life, cos someone you just met looks, superficially, like your spouse?

Wow… if so, I’m glad I’m not your wife!
