Can’t you just picture the waitstaff tripping over the lines?

The call was for him and the head waiter knew he was entertaining at his regular table when he brought the phone.

Now that mobile devices are ubiquitous, what technologies are the super-rich using to differentiate themselves from the masses?

Those were also the movies in which they’d discover some unknown talent and say “We’re going to make you a star! We’ll give you a contract for A THOUSAND A WEEK!” and it sounded like all the money in the world.

They’re getting their technology gold-covered and diamond-encrusted. (It’s actually old-fashioned, if you think about it.)

It’s very unusual these days for the rich to have any tech the rest of us want and can’’t get. The only exception I can think of is that Audi has a really spiffy nav system, and this week, only really expensive cars park themselves. Most of the tech they put into expensive cars is either available to the rest of us (just not built into cheaper cars) or else bad.

But remember, the content of his call was classy, too. “Tell my broker to buy 10,000 shares of Amalgamated Buggy Whip.” Or – “You and Rocco go over and make sure that guy can’t testify tomorrow.”

As my very wise wife pointed out, it may have been a lot rarer back then, but it was every bit as rude.

is ‘classy’ still available in the real world today? – other than photo shoots the pictures I see of those who could be ‘classy’ are not. as for technology, most people that think they are classy seem to be wearing virtual reality goggles/glasses and being lead around as if they were blind to what is in the real world – in which they don’t seem to ever participate.

I wonder why people go to lunch with each other, then get on their phones with other people and stay that way or just sit there browsing. I would feel insulted if someone did that to me.

Or when the big shot got into his Ferrari and pulled out a humongous car phone and chatted with someone as he went 100mph and flew through red lights.

It is just as rude to have a very loud conversation with the people at your table. I often can’t hear the conversation at my own restaurant table because the people nearby are talking so loud.

Nope, it was never classy. It used to be just about showing off, now it’s just common

Funny that the restaurant they’re in has so many people actually TALKING on phones. Most places these days have people staring at their phones, texting etc.— but not so many actually on voice calls.
