50 years ago, $20.00 would get you what now takes $150.00. (Yet we never insisted quarter dollars had to be printed on paper)

Aunty, your services were worth a lot more when you were young long ago.

Things now cost about 15 times what they did when I graduated college. Then, as a minimum-wage earner with no skills, I earned $1.25 and hour. Now a minimum worker with no skills does not earn $18.75 an hour.

My annual salary, now that I have an advanced degree and decades of successful experience is about 7.5 times what it was as a college graduate. So each hour of work is worth half what it was when I was just starting out. The more experience I get, the less my labor is worth.

I remember how excited I would get when I found a penny when I was a kid!

Don’t take any wooden nickels! (I remember when they sold those in Frontierland, Disneyland.)
