My wife is a New Zealand expat with a fairly strong MÄori bloodline. To the casual Texan, she might look like sheâs from south of the border. Hearing her speak, the average person might think she had an Australian or, worst case, a British English accent. Being from NZ, she has zero inhibitions around using colorful language as need be.
Today, my wife went to a popular hardware and home improvement store. She was loading four bags of mulch onto a cart when a woman approached her.
Woman: âI need you to load some of those onto my cart.â
Wife: âI donât work here.â
Woman: âI donât care. You people do this all the time.â
Wife: âWhat people?â
Woman: âImmigrants.â
Wife: âF*** off!â
Woman: Reeling and gasping âI COULD HAVE YOU FIRED!â
My wife didnât stick around, she headed off with her trolley of mulch, paid, and headed home. No drama. If the woman had asked my wife to help her, she would have been more than willing, but the first words out of her mouth were orders â and then she used the word âimmigrantsâ to describe my wife as someone âless thanâ.
