For some folks who want attention, even negative attention is good. Snakes just don’t have to work at it.

Why do people react so badly to snakes? I grew up in the Southwest (rattlesnake country) and as a youngster learned to never put my hand into a dark crevice I could not see into. My biggest fear is running over one with the lawnmower. Lots of garter snakes here on the Oregon Coast. Our house defines our space. Anything intruding from bears to bugs will be put outside, or worse. But outdoors we share the world with all of the creatures, big and small, only disturbing them or inflicting harm if they are a clear threat to us.

Maybe the snake was training to try out for this video (yes, I know it’s actually fake): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHceCL-PY3E

I’d like to make it very clear that getting bitten by a venomous snake is nothing to be proud of.
