Amusingly, most of the “mysteries of Tackleford” appear to be things that weren’t shown, despite there being plenty of things that could have been mentioned. But Tackleford DID have a minotaur! In the Scary Go Round story “Your Taxes at Work”, Esther and Erin were visiting an old abbey that had a maze, and in the maze they found a minotaur, which they decided to release (for reasons that probably made sense to them at the time but not once they actually had time to think about it). They hid the minotaur in the Winters’ barn for the night, but Mike happened to see it when his car got a flat after dropping off Shelley (Shelley was covering a city council meeting for the Cormorant, and Mike decided to help her out in the hopes of getting some “Shelley action” (his words)), after which the minotaur became something of a local celebrity. But Mayor Tim Jones was worried that the minotaur would eventually do something violent, so Amy devised a plan to introduce the minotaur to the visiting Robotanian ambassador from Tackleford’s sister city of Mechacropolis-X, Red Robot. As expected, the minotaur was enraged by the color red (because it’s part bull, of course), and Red Robot used his laser eyes to burn the minotaur to death in self-defense. (Tim wasn’t really thrilled to have a visitor from a former communist nation of killer robots, so Amy was solving two problems at once.)
And thus ended the tale of the Tackleford Minotaur. (Total story length: 20 pages. Really.)
