Actually, he may have a point. Is Lottie the right kind of student for a Latin class? It isn’t that she’s not smart enough to master the language (after all, even dumb Romans could nevertheless converse in Latin!), but she doesn’t seem academically… devoted. I can’t see her sitting down for hours to memorize subjunctive second verb conjugations and third noun declensions when she could find something more interesting (and mysterious!) to do instead.

Lottie might now be thinking she’s better off not being in that class. And once they find out about Mrs. Lord, they might be wishing they were in HER class.
