A “Gris Gris” is a Voodoo amulet or talisman. Gumbo is a Louisiana soup, of possible African origin, so was added to the chant for that reason.

I mean, I can understand a ghost being a bit of a downer, given a ghost’s general (after)life circumstances. But this guy is being a bit of a downer even by ghost standards.
