Tia Carmen: I don't know why you're worried about my date with Gregorio. Tia Carmen: Really, Sergio, he's harmless, nothing crazy is going to happen. Dad: I hope so, Tia Carmen.
I could be wrong, but I’m not expecting a con. The ring looks like it’ll set Gregorio back more than he’d get from scamming Carmen. I think we’ll probably see a sincere (if impetuous) proposal.
I know, I know, he might be putting down a deposit or buying a fake, but if he were a serial proposer-to of “wealthy” spinsters he’d probably have a convincing bit of glass already handy. Also, having so recently rerun the lottery scam story, it would seem like overkill to have Carmen play pigeon twice in such a short time.
I just wonder how can Gregorio afford to buy an expensive ring at the jewelers for Tia Carmen or someone else? Does he have a lot of money to buy fancy and expensive ring? Wait and see about that.
Joe, I’m a Tex-Mex and I’ve always thought Hijole to mean something like, holy cow or yikes. What you said does make sense, but it wouldn’t explain why I’ve heard some people say, Hijo de ~! and Hijole in the same sentence. That would just be like repeating themselves, you know?

I’m sure it’s not what it looks like and we’re going to get a silly, strange, or otherwise unique surprise on Friday.

Gregorio is going to try and pull a fast one. He’s probably one of those losers that scam older women.

(Again, though, I could be wrong.)

What a sly, suave fox Gregorio is. Will Tía Carmen say “sí”?
