When I grew up, you made your own fun with whatever was at hand. Me and my friends could’ve done a lot even with a kid-safe playground. Kids these days — no imagination …

I know the feeling :P

look at all those sharp corners! a kid could trip and fall and get hurt! and no fun either… lose lose situation

maybe poke an eye out lol!

and why aren’t they wearing helmets, and kneepads, and wrist guards and shoulderpads and …..?

And could fall off of one of those dangerous boxes! And what is the surface of that playground. They could skin a knee…. etc etc etc

Yes, and my teeth, the ones I still have. AHHHHH the good ole daze………………

the lawyers are hoping for a kid to be injured so that they can sue the city for big bucks.

Lawyers and Insurance companies have ruined this nation.

rayannina: Right, with a little imagination, they could skate down the wedge, crawl through the tunnel in the orange block, try to climb up and stand on the spheres, see if they can pull the toroid up and use it for a hoop …

They should take a trip to Cul-de-Sac and try out the Jungle Gym!

Any kid who makes it to 18 without a broken bone or two (or at least a couple of scars) has missed out on some important experiences. Whether it’s over-protective parents or unimaginative kids who are at fault is an open question.

There is a wonderful playground in San Gabriel, CA created by a Mexican sculptor. It’s called “La Laguna de San Gabriel” and consists of a “lagoon” of sand inhabited by concrete sea monsters, whales, fish, and a huge octpus. A lighthouse on a perch guards the sea. The city fathers wanted to tear it down and make it kid-safe. Fortunately, a few dedicated people saved it and are working to make it “safe” (not that anyone ever got seriously hurt there) without destroying the art.

Even sand is too dangerous! Look up ‘play sand is a carcinogen’. i have to laugh when I read it “silica and quartz are dangerous when inhaled” – silica and quartz are the main ingredients of sand

He forgot to make the floor out of that spongy material. I’m glade he’s making fun of this.

There’s no fun at all!
