Another GOOD MORNING BALLARDEERS! Q-DAY 55,209 My facial tic is easing up, but I’m still hearing voices at night. Maybe the second sunny day in a row will help…. (whadda ya mean no?) Never mind him. He’s just being a pain in the butt today.
Gotta love that purple eye shadow is a basset’s best friend.
Ya’ll take care of you and yours.
We’ll be fine…(no we won’t)DON’T MAKE ME TURN THIS DESK AROUND!
I keep seeing Carol Burnett in her parody of Gloria Swanshound. She deserves an award just for that one. I see that Basset Boulevard earned 3 (count them, 3) Golden Biscuit awards for this film!

Audrey has that “Bette Davis” disdainful look…
Now if she could raise just one eyebrow she’d look like……..Spock….

You can see all the stars as you waddle down Bassetwood Boulevard.

Here’s a (crowded) human version:

I wonder if Audrey had seen that movie (the basset-based one, of course) and just couldn’t get hold of purplie eye-shadow?

Good movie, but my favorite Hounden movie was Dog Pound 17.

Ah… good evening/morning/afternoon, Cleo pals and movie fans…
We have a very dramatic poster from StelBel today….
Gloria Swanshound, in her arguably most remembered role, though it came years after her film heyday …
the iconic Norma Deshound in “Basset Boulevard”
in the May 7th 2020 “CLEO and COMPANY”
It’s on Sherpa… you can view it with the link above…
For a bookmark, use this undated one, which always goes to the current strip:

Basset Boulevard is somewhere on just about every director’s or critic’s list of Best Movies…
on some it’s even called the number one all time great film.
The casting alone… wow.
Swanshound was in semi-retirement…. in real life, almost as old as her character…
but unlike the mad, egomaniacal, and badly aging silent star she portrayed….
still in great shape, and in full possession of her faculties.
Director Billy Wilddog wanted her made up to look older, so her attraction to the much younger Hounden would look more obviously inappropriate,
But Swanshound, proud of her youthful looks…
which she credited to her strict health regime, including carrying her own vegetarian meals everywhere…
refused, insisting that Hounden be made to look younger, instead.
Hounden was relatively unknown… he owed most of his later career to this film.
Some famous faces from older films played themselves..
including Hedda Yipper, a columnist, as in real life, aging star Buster Biscuit, playing a friend of Norma’s…
and Cecil DeBasset playing… whoa… a movie director.
Who can forget… “All right, Mr. DeBasset, I’m ready for my closeup.”
