Crows crack walnuts quite noisily on my roof, from late October, when they start falling (my walnuts, not the crows) through…. hmmm…. probably the next October, if they can still find any.

And a hat like that might come in handy…. IF it’s padded… though the walnuts mostly come down when it’s windy.

Anyway…. I need to report that Beviek wasn’t here tonight because she was having trouble with her computer. In fact, she may not be able to use it for a few days….

I hope the problems get resolved soon, but so far, it seems to be a hardware issue, and I don’t know how to figure it out.

Keep your fingers crossed for her.

    We miss you, Bev!

That’s one of the nice things about where I live.Water is not a problem for the birds, so I can concentrate on food.

No euphemism, just a crow repeatedly throwing a walnut down to the blacktop. Interesting to watch.

I chopped a cup of walnuts yesterday for the next batch of breakfast bars (pecans are tastier for snacks but the walnuts are very healthy). I keep tweeking that recipe – added bulgar wheat and doubled the amount of hulled sunflower seeds, but otherwise it’s the one I gave back at CD recipe page.

I agree with Susan about padding for that metal lid for Bob’s comfort. I love to watch the birds eating stuff but my wild birds seldom get nuts. When grapes are under $2/# I buy enough to share with them and usually cut each in half to make it easier for soft-beaked birds. I’d rather give them that than bread because it does not attract the pigeons. With the big patio doors behind me here, I see them even if typing on the screen (reflected).

Good luck to Bev on the new computer. I’ll probably be going for a new one before long. I hear that the original Surface will have deep discounts now that there’s a new one. I no longer care about super power for AutoCAD but still like to do lots of photos and videos.

Good for you with the birdbath. I don’t need it here, but I used a little cylindrical poultry troth heater in my birdbath back in IllinoisI could see some of them splashing from over 30’ away (bedroom window).

Good to hear that you didn’t need a new one yet, Bev. I really hope I don’t have to change computers again before I’m done with all my personal things. Part of my problems on PC were too much activity and I needed to tweek some settings. I’m looking into getting whiter teeth for now (apt tomorrow). Got to do minor things before I have a face lift – I’ll think about that next year, when I get my BP down without meds.

I decided there’s no way I want to take BP meds and drop all my vitamins at the same time as a stressful operation. They said I had to take enough to ASSURE that it is low during operation and recovery.

@Linda- too funny, and birds really DO LOVE to play with strings! I used to even cut fabric scraps (from sewing) into narrow strips for Cuddles, and in nesting season I put out lots of stuff in the Horno (little owl-shaped heating oven) on the patio (I’ve never lit a fire in it). One of my kids bought it.

I just watched last night’s episode of FaceOff where the 4 finalists had to design a hybrid bird-human in this episode (I love costumes so I’ve watched this show from the first season). I was delighted when one of the 4 live birds was an umbrella cockatoo (like Cuddles) but very disappointed with the execution of the piece. Laura’s excuse to have an entirely featherless head (age) is absurd, because parrots to not allow themselves to look ill as they age, although some become neurotic self-pluckers (Cuddles had to be scolded for plucking her shoulders and legs – fluffy feathers around her legs annoyed her). I have seen parrots who were neurotic and others ill, but age is never a factor in appearance (in fact can seldom be determined unless DOB is known) which is why the vet at Fitroy’s death said he must likely have been older than I had been told (to have a stroke). All the contestants did better with faces than the whole creature and the right guy won with his vulture – really great job.

I recommend this show (next year as next week will be a finale) on SiFi and Naked Vegas (body painting) just started last night. There was a short lived show on that channel on stagecraft but it must have failed. All the costumes were heavy on the wings; I made mine to be comfortable to wear as long as I chose and I used fabric pens to apply metallic sparkley to edges of my cut feathers and used some sequin and rhinestone trims around the neck and rhinestones & beads on the mask around the eyes (especially blue pearls).

The trainer stated that MALES of the U2 have blue around the eye (mature males have very dark IRIS and females have lt. brown to red) – BOTH have the blue skin and no feathers adjacent to eyes

I went to my link now that I had time to watch, and enjoyed the first part (with the haunted house) but when I arrived at the aliens I knew it by word. And I never liked the aliens as characters there. So, got to find something else and THIS is fun

Well, it appears that my middle son wants to chat only on his way home (3PM my time per my caller ID) so I’ll try tomorrow. He was even willing to come and stay during my operation if I needed someone, so I’ll call at his convenience (He’s a big VP in Bell and involved in so many charities that I’ll arrange per his time). Good night all!
