At 17, when I went for my tests and physical for joining the Air Force, they woke us up blowing an air horn up and down the hall. I sprang out of my upper bunk and hit the floor. My jowls felt funny…..heavy………. swollen. And then I had a 100+ bus trip to get back home. I felt okay, and didn’t know the danger I was in.
When I was 4 or 5, I got the mumps – but instead of puffing up on the outside, I swelled inside my mouth and throat, making it dangerous to even try to eat.
