    “So” as a sentence starter is everywhere these days. Don’t know why we picked up that verbal hiccup, but I bet we have it for a few more years.

    I listen to NPR and a lot of the guests start almost every sentence with “So”. It’s annoying. To me, anyway.

    “So”, as a sentence starter, has a long tradition. You’ll notice Seamus Heaney starts his translation of Beowulf with “So”. It may be more common in the vernacular now than it was a decade ago, but it’s nothing new.
