Ultimately it will be the boss’s idea, so what’s the difference?

A good salesperson will help a customer find a correct solution to their problem. If the customer’s initial solution is bad, he/she will show him/her a better solution, and convince the customer it was his/her idea…

I’ve heard of this “advice” before to persuade a manager about a particular solution. There is some truth in this strip. Many managers claim they want innovative solutions but they refuse to hear truly new ideas, or ideas that clash with their preconceived notions. It takes several tries until a manager is willing to give a new idea a try. It’s not always about ego but about the comfort of old habits.
