Cars have already been hacked. Steering, brakes, gas pedal, radio; just waiting for the other shoe and I expect it to be the NSA, not ISIS, in a targeted killing.
I don’t know the answer to your question (time will tell), but I’m reminded of the time (many years ago, now) when holograms were firrst added to credit cards, to make them “impossible” to copy/forge. The day that the first ones were issued to the public, there were already counterfeits in circulation.
