Not surprised a pair of Washingtonians would think of this. When I lived in D.C., I got called to jury duty many times. Sometimes I had the excuse of being away at college. Once I was called by two courts for overlapping dates. At no point did I actually serve as a juror; I was just present in case they needed me. I haven’t been called in the four years since I moved out. My parents served several times — even my dad, who’s a lawyer and thus supposed to be exempt. When my mom had been called too many times in a row, she got out by threatening to vote with the majority of the jury no matter what.
In truth, I half-wished to be a juror once. It’d give me a little more experience.
She’s not far off.
