Back to face to face @ school, eh, Cyn? Amazing you survived not having the school marms to torment!
when to the sessions of sweet silent thought
i summon up remembrance of my assignment
i sigh the lack of many a thing i forgot
and with old woes new wail my dear time spent…
(with apologies to willie)
A climbing fountain with the sun upon it,
Most beautiful and bounded, is a sonnet.
I never saw a purple cow …
“There was a young gal from Nantucket…”
Blank verse that doesn’t rhyme is non pareil,
So long as metric rhythm is intact.
Five feet per line, each foot therein a pair,
Was just the thing for Shakespeare, and for me.
When I was asked to write a sonnet for my HS English class, I wrote it to Math.
I was a math nerd. In English class, when they started discussing hyperbole, I was wondering when they’d get to parabole.
Free verse isn’t free.
Some English teachers would see it the other way: Nonrhyming poets have to be good at what they do, whereas rhyming poets might do well ONLY at rhyme and rhythm and not realize how little they’re bringing.
“Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Some poems rhyme,
But this one doesn’t."
A polar sleeps in his little bear skin. He sleeps very well I’m told. Last night I slept in my little bear skin. And I got a hell of a cold! :p
I could write a sonnet about your easter bonnet
