And there are so many humiliating ways to be found dead…
I was watching an old “X Files” the other night, with Peter Boyle as a man who could glimpse the future but only certain parts of it (mostly how you would die). At one point Mulder asks him "How will I die?’ “Do you really want to know?” “Yes… I do.” “… No, you don’t.”
A couple of scenes later they’re in a car and in response to nothing Boyle says “You know, there are lots of worse ways to go. But autoerotic asphyxiation has to be about the most undignified.” Mulder leans over from the back seat (Scully is driving) and says “Wait, why are you mentioning this now?”
(Near the end of the episode, Scully asks Boyle “How will I die?” and he beams lovingly at her and says “You never do…”)
