When I went in to buy a car in 96, I prepared myself by researching the car and the dealer on the Web. When we were discussing options, I started throwing out the letter codes they used for the options. The guy’s eyes went wide and he said “you know our codes”! That moment was priceless!
My husband and I wanted a minivan in the late 80s. At one dealership, the saleman wouldn’t even acknowledge my existence – only spoke to my husband. Seriously, this guy thought I wouldn’t have any say in buying a freakin’ Mom-mobile? We walked out.

If the sales guy was really that way, shouldn’t have he been, say, 20 years older?

I think Scott’s right. If they want to treat you like a walking wallet instead of a person, you can always shop elsewhere :)

I lke the part when they write their selling price on a a note, and you write your buying price.

Do they still blast the radio when you get in the car? I forgot how annoying the whole process can be.

THANK YOU SCOTT, for saying “How To Not” instead of the deplorable “How Not To”.

Don’t you love it when they ask, “So how much are you thinking of spending?” That’s when you say, “What’s your lowest price?”
