Apparently the Giant Thresher Bird doesn’t get the message.

Bet he won’t try saying THAT again.

Just repeat it in reverse order. It might work! If it doesn’t, try “Werp Tweedel Werp Speetle.” Another option is “Tweedel Werp Speetle Werp.”

One of them must work!

Idiot! That was the mating call. Be thankful you pnly got slapped.

Must have been an insult perhaps even a swear word.

Don’t they mean “the THRASHER bird”?

I’d have used one of my legs or feet, or my beak. No sense in breaking a perfectly good flyin’ wing over an insult.

Better yet, there are several possible airborne tactics…

the bad accent annoyed the Thresher - not what he said but how he said it!

They meant ‘trasher’ bird.

There’s an old Bizarro cartoon of a duck sitting in a bar, next to a guy in hunting gear holding a duck call to his mouth: “Listen, Buddy! The next time you blow that thing in public, you BETTER know what you’re saying, and you DAMN sure better MEAN it!”

On an unrelated note, the greenery sticking in around the edge of the first panel is an interesting artistic choice. I can’t say I’ve seen anything like it in this strip. The whole first panel looks like it was done by somebody else, actually. The dialogue is hanging in air with just a line towards Peter, like in Doonesbury. I can only remember seeing full-on balloons here before, like in the last panel.

BAP! That is new sound to me, huh?! LOLs! I think that bird doesn’t like that sound.

Nearly reminds me the “Garfield” strip where Garfield was trying to call some birds (for a snack). Unknowingly behind him while he’s puzzled why no bird came, there are a few ugly-looking birds.
