Teresa - I’ve never been in the military, but had difficulty when I tried to shoot a rifle as a kid, because I’m right handed, and left eyed. Perfect target - no holes.
With pistols, it isn’t as difficult to use the opposite eye, so I’m a fairly decent shooter with those.
I’m also clumsy and flunked every depth perception test I’ve ever been given (which might account for the klutziness). My sons (18 & 21) are baffled how I can shoot better than they can, since my vision is worse. I tell them the bullet goes until it hits something that stops it - it doesn’t care if it is 8 feet, 20 or 30 feet away.
The defensive pistol class was taught by a guy who also teaches law enforcement officers, so he knows his stuff. Thankfully, for the moving & shooting drills, we had a head & shoulders target, instead of a bullseye, so as long as we got the holes in the neck, it was fine.
