As my parents aged I had their Power of Attorney and I paid the bills. Once my mom’s Blood Pressure medication go out of whack. I took her to the doctor and he had her admitted immediately to the hospital through the ER. They ran a whole battery of tests, adjusted her medication, kept her overnight for observation, did not perform an procedures, and discharged her the next day. The bill was $25,000. Fortunately she was on Medicare and had GI insurance being a vet. That bill would have put most families on the street. Our medical system is seriously broken.
