You should put them on freecycle instead. There are still plenty of places (shelters, day care centers, doctors’ offices) that have VCRs, and they’d be happy to take them off your hands.
Just because a piece of technology has become obsolete, it doesn’t mean that it should be abandoned.
I donated all mine to my library – they added them to their stacks and check them out.
