At our house, there’s one additional step between “The dog won’t touch it” and “Trash.” It’s called “Dad Food.”

If it’s bad he rejects it, if it’s good he eats it. Either way, it’s not yours.

In the normal times before now, we generally did not have leftovers and ate out 3 dinners and 7 lunches a week. The rare leftovers would end up being tossed out after they had gone BAD sitting in the fridge.

Since the pandemic started – and especially at the start of it when husband was sure was we would run out of food and not be able to buy more (our mid March 2020 food shopping trip was in a supermarket with almost empty cold cases, aisles with barely anything in them and no meat products left at all in the store). So we ate small portions and kept the leftovers and made sure to eat them. (I lost 14 lbs.) If we had a frozen entree meal such as little meatloaves, in normal times we would have each have had 3 of the six for dinner – instead we had 2 each and refroze the other two – combined with the leftovers from a second package – we got 3 dinners out of what would normally be 2 dinners for us. So over the past 14 months we have been careful with leftovers to make sure to eat them before they go bad.
