I remember helping my granddaughter buy her school supplies a few years back. I had to but six binders of six specific colors. And there were no purple binders at the Wal-Mart we went to. We ended up having to go to three stores to find all the specific items they were asking for so that every kid had exactly the same stuff, no competition allowed. Imagine the chaos if some kid instead of a plain red binder brought in a red Charizard binder. The horror.
The list also included a 16 crayon box. I told her that if I got her a 64 crayon box, it would still have all the colors that the 16 crayon box had. She reacted with fear to the idea of non-conformance.
Schools use put out list for what they want…Then the teachers asked for color folder for the class work…I sent a message If she could find the colors she wanted I would get then but for now she will get I already have…
It’s messed up that we don’t fund schools enough anymore that parents and teachers have to buy the things that when I was a wee one were provided for us.
I was once working in a department store shoe department and the head of a private school came to me and asked me to show him the all black athletic shoes because he wanted his kids to wear plain black shoes and I told him there is no such thing as a plain black athletic shoe. I hope he got the message and changed his requirements

Not a good idea for all the kids to have identical supplies. That’s how they get mixed up.

Get him the ruler to keep at home.

The next step will be each teacher with their own branded merchandise. Available online or from a pop-up kiosk.

The list is a little too specific, doesn’t allow for individuality.

That’s a soul crushing list. Do schools actually do this?
