I think it’s sad… a lot kids today are stressed and feel unsafe, sometimes with good reason.

When I was about 8, in a different world, I had an elderly neighbor, a few doors down.

She lived alone with a cat, so kids being kids, some started calling her a witch, and avoiding her house on Halloween.

But she had beautiful flowers, and one day I sneaked into her back yard to look at them… she invited me in, and we talked, and had milk and cookies.

I started going over there maybe once a week, after school, and helping her with her garden.

My parents said “that’s nice”… the only thing they voiced any concern about was my eating cookies before dinner, but because I was never one to lose my appetite, they decided it was OK.

The only things they knew about her were her last name and where she lived.

    Like I said… a different world.

I’m guessing that active shooter drills at school will cause a kid to have those thoughts.
