Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for October 30, 2011
Transcript:
Kid says, "Mommy, look at the smurf!" Nate says, "Smurf? That kid called me a smurf! Excuse me, I'm a lawn gnome! Smurfs and lawn gnomes don't look alike! Not even close! Smurfs are blue! Do I look blue to you? No! Smurf! Please!" Girl says, "Ooh! Are you a smurf like me?" Nate says, "Why, yes I am!" Francis says, "Quick costume change."
The answer to your “what is going on” question is a little complicated, but here goes: The colors are different because I’m in charge ONLY of coloring the Sunday page. Someone from gocomics colors the daily strips. That usually works fine, because I’ve furnished gocomics with a list of what colors to use for clothing, skin tones, backgrounds, and so on. But when a character isn’t wearing his/her “normal” clothes, then sometimes things like this happen. (Personally, I have always felt and continue to feel that, in a newspaper, daily comics look best in black & white, and Sunday comics in color. But I certainly understand why most people feel differently.)
