I don’t think Artur’s gonna win. Everyone thinks he will, but that what Lincoln wants you to think. Nate’s gonna win. :)

Nate hates Artur for a few reason. One he beat Nate in Chess and two he took Jenny from Nate.

Looking back in retrospect (meaning back to Artur’s very first appearance in the strip), Nate brings the supposed wrath of Artur down on himself every time. Of course he feels no better! He won’t until he figures this out, and if you’re holding your breath on THAT one, better plan on setting a new world’s record!! Holding my “Haw” here……….for now!!

When I was a counseling Psychologist, there was a form of therapy like this. It was called the Primeval Scream. It worked about as good back “in the day” as it worked for Nate.

Competition – be it sports, arts, sciences or even a doodle contest – can bring out the best in people – and the worst.
I can wholeheartedly understand and appreciate Nate’s frustration. Artur wins Jenny. Artur dethrones him as chess champ. And he is reacting in a very human fashion for a young man of his age.
Thing is, everything seems to be a competition/contest for Nate – and that seems to be his energy factor.
Don’t get me wrong – I was energized (and strongly rooting for Nate, big time) when he and Gina did the “bet” where he couldn’t land detention for a week. He did indeed win the bet….
….and believe me, I was cheering.
To the cartoonist – Big Nate is one of my favourite strips and I look forward to reading it every day.

Sorry, hit the “enter” key instead of the “return” key.
My point being was that if Nate would make things more of an exercise rather than a contest, I think he’d enjoy life a bit more…..
’nuff said.

All these ifs. You forget that Nate is in a closed loop where everything repeats and nothing changes. That is comic strip life where the characters don’t age. If you want to see characters mature and grow up, read For Better or For Worse.
