Hi, Gramps, it's me again. Hey, sorry about that phone call earlier. I was just feeling jealous that Francis is spending time at his grandparents' lake house. I wasn't trying to say that you should own a lake house! Maybe you could just rent one for a while, and I could come vis- Hello?
At least he didn’t use the “non-apology apology” which is all too common these days. This is when someone has done something wrong to you and when you object, they say “Gee, I’m sorry you were upset.” At first, it seems like an apology because it does have the words “I’m sorry” in it. But when you examine it more carefully, you realize that they are not saying they are sorry for having done the wrong thing, instead they are sorry that YOU are such an over sensitive person that you were upset by their perfectly reasonable action.
