As for candy, Necco wafers are the ultimate Halloween candy punishment, along with Mary Janes and Bit-o-Honeys—the trifecta of Halloween candy disappointment.

That’s correct! Gina has a hyphenated name because I gave her a surname (Hemphill) having forgotten that I’d already given her one a couple years earlier (Toms). So I hyphenated them. I think it suits her.

Today I live in my own home and I leave the porch light off. When I lived in the apartment it was 2 blocks away from college dorms. But hey my excuse would have been that it was the season to be scary.

One Halloween when I was Nate’s age, I had long-ish hair and thought it would be amusing to wear one of my sister’s dresses, white stockings, and a ribbon in my hair. Sort of an “Alice in Wonderland” look. My friends and I thought it was a great costume because I was barely recognizable as me. Unfortunately, NONE of the people who answered doors believed I was wearing a costume, and it got tiresome to explain that everyone in our group were all boys.
