Big Nate by Lincoln Peirce for June 10, 2015
Transcript:
Mrs. Godfrey: Nate, I think the best tutor for you would be- Nate: Gina. Mrs. Godfrey: Gina? Nate: It's obvious that's who you've decided on, so just say it! Mrs. Godfrey: Well, actually,I assumed you and Gina couldn't get along well enough to work together, but you clearly feel differently! Mrs. Godfrey: Gina it is! Nate: I hate myself.
It’s funny in a strip, but that would be a terrible move for an actual teacher to make.. There are appropriate times to teach the “how to work with people you don’t like” lesson, but when a student is struggling academically and needs individual help is not one of them. A real-life Nate here would already be feeling inadequate for not keeping up with the class, and would need to catch up somewhere they feel comfortable/safe from ridicule to learn.
