Alright gang, my sonic coffee is on. Today it is blintz day. I also have fruit (my new morning ritual). I have more Hempler’s bacon and ham. I have got to tell you people that don’t live in my proximity, you are missing out on some great pork products when you don’t have Hempler’s. The bacon doesn’t even create grease in a pan. I have also made homemade light wheat bread and once again I have my standby, extra bitter orange marmalade.

I am old enough to be a fan. It is not like I am anywhere near being a trekie, but I will watch the new movie because it seems to expand the series concept. I ten to like more independent films or foreign movies. I like movies that don’t seem to be trying, but rather capturing a moment in a day or in time.

    Good morning and Happy Wednesday!!

I’ve never gotten into Star Trek, though I did watch Enterprise for a few seasons since it had Scott Bakula. But then it got too unbelievable even for me. I was slightly interested in the movie when I heard the guy from Heroes was playing Spock, but then I saw a commercial and went back to not caring :-)

I wonder if Paris gets a lot of confessions like that?

Morning. Someone {Shika?} asked about my reference to IE6 yesterday. It’s just an older version of Internet Explorer I have to use at the office to use the tools I have for my job.

And thanks for the trip through TV’s memory lane yesterday. Sorry I missed the trivia. I doubt if I would have placed, let alone won but it looks like y’all had fun.

DoctorToon: I’ll send you some of our weather until we get to the island. It’s sunny, and 14oC- that’s uh, well a little less than 75oF I think! I’m going for a walk today, to see the blossoms on the trees. our leaves are just starting here.

carmy, hope you’re coming too! The salt air and sunshine will do you good. Me too.

drystyha: Looks like all your secrets are out. Darn. I thought they were MY secrets! LOL

Joy: use coconut milk. that should reduce the itching! (Not that I speak from experience here ;)

JFri: Don’t row too fast, you’ll tire yourself out1 We may need you and Doc for heaving lifting! I hear that commicaddict has a heavy trunk he needs help with!

Radical: I haven’t seen Star Trek II, movies aren’t in my budget at the moment. Dr. Spock was my favorite in the original. I’d like to see what he’s like now.

Where’s tabbylynn? I saw something about a graduation. Hers, or someone elses? I don’t always get all the posts. I have that duck story for her, but I’m still waiting (ahem) for someone to checkout my post from a couple of days ago to see what’s up with my cut and paste.

Shika a blintz is a thin egg crepe that you use to wrap up a cheese filling, using a cheese such as ricotta or farmer’s cheese, etc. You can also make potato blitzes. There are a whole variety of ways to make and serve them. They are also good covered in fruit.

Today is chilly, cloudy, and windy but not enough rain to dampen the sloughs. I’ve got it all packed and ready to ship somewhere. Anywhere. I doubt anyone here would miss it. BTW am I too late to catch the boat to the island? I could use some sunshine. I will bring along a homemade wine that a friend gave us. It is made from chokecherry juice and is quite good.

“Eskimo” is called “Innuit”, which means “people of the snow.” That is their own name, although of course, they have many tribes.

They were educated in English from 3rd grade, so even at the marketplace, we didn’t need interpreters. Didn’t get up to Kenya - only had 2 weeks.

Shikamoo I was pretty sure “Eskimo” was no longer used, and now that I see “Innuit”, I do remember hearing it before and the translation. But when I don’t use/hear a new term repeatedly, it escapes me. My hubby’s company’s HQ is in Mississauga, and I’m hoping to tag along with him when he has to go up there again. Guess I’ll need to update my passport though, I let it expire.

JFri: That was my second post, but the site shut down for system repairs. Honest1 I’m glad to know the answer. The site I googled just said that Dean wasn’t on the cover, but that Brain says “thanks Dean” on the recording at the end. And now, I’m REALLY going out, and likely won’t see you guys until tomorrow. Behave yourselves at the party (yeah, right!), in case I drop in again. Leave some fun for me!

shikamoo I’ll keep that offer in mind. I still have one more year to homeschool. (My youngest will be a senior - hurrah!) At least I can get away for few days at a time now, but when he goes to Canada, it’s usually for a whole week. So, I probably won’t end up going there until after our youngest graduates. I presume you are fairly close to Mississauga?

Since we are all heading to a desert Island, is anybody interested in listing their desert island disks? I’ll list five that aren’t necessarily my all time faves, but disks I like to listen to a lot. “Haunted Heart” by Charlie Haden, “To Stuffed To Jump” by The Amazing Rhythm Aces, “Red Dirt Girl” by Emmylou Harris, “Live At Leeds” by The Who, and “Essence” by Lucinda Williams. Oh heck and one more, while I have it in my head “Unplugged in New York” by Nirvana. Gosh, and I haven’t listed any blues yet. Yikes!

TRIBE TOON DAILY POST Special Report: An earthquake registering 7.9 on the Richer Scale was reported in the Caribbean this afternoon. The epicenter appears to be a desert island where a party is going on hosted by a PIRATE and his lady. The source of the quake has been rumored to have been created by extreme grass & coconut shaking. A toon tsunami has hit gocomics and left in it’s path an unusual format which may or may not be permanent. Citizens of gocomics are advised to remain calm but to move away from any vats of ink. Officiials are turning to BMONK & DOCTORTOON for spiritual advice. We will have updates as they become available.

I like most of your song suggestions. Okay JFRI…here is my Jimmy Buffet story (sorry to repeat for those who have heard it). I used to spend my winters camping out at the foot of the 7 mile bridge in Marathon, FL. Key West was about 45 miles further down the keys. One day I was walking down Duvall Street and I came to one of my favorite open air bars (when I was going down there it had two different names over the years I camped, “The Bull” and “Lou’s” and I don’t know which it was at the time). Anyways, I went in for a cocktail and a guy was playing an open mike, this was in the early afternoon. He sang really catchy songs appropriate to the Key West surroundings. At most a year later he hit it big, with the songs he was singing that day. And of course it was Jimmy Buffet.

Okey, since this morphed from CDs to songs. “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer” by George Thorogood, “Summertime Blues” by The Who and “Essence” by Lucinda Williams. These don’t have to be all related to island life. Just songs you’d want to have if you were stranded on the island.

Yeah “Sloop John B.” is a great song. I liked Blue Cheer’s version better too. They are one of the few bands that I bought their album for the song “Summertime Blues”l, but returned the album because I didn’t like anything else though. I thought the album cover was cool though, the black and white photo of them with their super long hair and lucking tough.

I saw Stevie Ray Vaughn at the Paramount in Seattle and loved the concert and the venue. Jimi Hendrix was a big influence on him so he made a point of having Jimi’s dad in the audience and then bringing him up on stage. He died shortly thereafter. I loved Stevie’s guitar as I loved Jimi’s.

@JFri - not comicgod. Think of me more like Jacob, from LOST.

@Drystyha - What do you mean the white background hurts your eyes? The last background was white, as well. (I’m actually not the designer, I’m one of the guys you might gripe at if there’s something technically broken).

Liked your link JFri…The first concert I ever went to was in Minot, North Dakota. The lineup was first off a band called The Outsiders who had one big hit, they were followed by Them with Van Morrison. The Final group was the Beach Boys. It was such an unusual match up. And JFRI…I actiually like Patti Smith’s version of Gloria better. Call me a heretic, because I like Van Morrison, but she puts real edge to the song.

JFRi, Them was the band that Van Morrison was in at the time he recorded Gloria. He quit shortly thereafter. Your concert with The Beach Boys and Jan And Dean was a better plan then the match up with mine. I enjoyed it though because all 3 bands were big at that time.

How about “Black Is Black” by Los Bravos. Actually the background was white with kind of a green design mixed with it. If I remember right (God it was just hours ago) the design was like the little cloudlike balloons that dialogue is written in at a strip.

DRY - I don’t have a green thumb, even though my folks made me do a lot of gardening when I was a kid. I planted lilacs & irises, and some trees several years ago, but I stay away from anything that has to be weeded, pruned, fertilized, transplanted, or harvested. With our hot summers & cold winters here, it is hard to grow some plants without a lot of work. We get over 100F in the summer, and not unheard of to get below zero in the winter, although I think we only got as low as the single digits this year. We happen to have 5 acres located on an old gravel pit. So to plant, we have to use a pickax, or a tractor implement. We’ve got some virgin soil here I think - I’m sure it was never tilled. We’re on the edge of the Flint Hills, and grazing cattle/horses is about all the agricultural use that can be done because of the stones.

I haven’t done that the past two years becasue the cats I have now sit on the windowsills. INow I go to the greenhouse where you don’t get the varities I would buy if I were buying from a catalog like “Totally Tomatoes” or “Burpee”. I also used to can a lot of stuff becasue my mom did and I learned from her. Even used to make my own sauerkraut.

(Like not watering in the heat of the day!) My mom canned a lot too, but most of it after I left home and she had more time (she retired when I was in high school). My parents always had a big garden, what they grew varied, but tomatoes were always planted. My sister likes to garden, but I’d rather do inside stuff like crafts & reading.

In my neck of the woods we have just now started putting in tomatoes. We have a problem with blossom end rot. I agree that their is nothing like a tomato off the vine. Store bought tomatoes are so far from tasty that they verge on no taste at all. We have a wonderful farmer’s market and also an intown farm that sells produce, both are excellent for all produce, but their tomatoes shine and sometimes taste like candy. I also like the trend towards heirloom tomatoes that just a few years ago were next to impossible to find.

My husband does enjoy vine-ripened tomatoes. I’ve never cared for straight tomato flavor - I only like it adulterated. Like tomato soup, catsup, salsa, spaghetti/pizza sauce… I’ve diverticulitis 3 times, so I have to avoid anything with small seeds now, which means I couldn’t eat them now if I wanted to. I find the easiest way to get fresh tomatoes is to be around friends/neighbors/family when their plants start producing. They usually are quite willing to share.

Life with teenagers is never boring! I just had to bandage my 16 year old’s face (right between the eyebrows) because he hit something when his brother shot him in the back of the neck with a rubberband. I was beginning to wonder if I was going to have to take him to get stitches, but decided if he wouldn’t keep making faces this evening, it will be okay with just a band-aid and neosporin. This kid had 3 different injuries when he was around 1 year old that each required stitches, so at least I’ve had some experience evaluating wounds for that reason.

Carmy - This will be fixed soon. Convince Doctoon that this IS better and the COMMANDOS are making everything better by monitoring our chatter and “concerns”. We should have out “following” and “Followers” back as well.

I myself am still struggling as I did when they changed the whole format the last time.

Hey Guys, was gone for a while and come back to 7 pages?! Sorry if I got us on the watch list for peeking at the source code… . Eric and Kenny, welcome and thanks for your efforts in improving the site, I look forward to the finished product. I love the posting in place without reloading the screen. Just to add my 2 cents worth to the suggestions already made, I agree the background needs to be dimmed a little and the text darkened, it is a bit harsh to read. It would be nice to have some basic formating, and I would love the idea of a longer list of recent comments, same as Doctoon, I used them to kepp track of different threads on different toons.

Thanks, Rad, although it is a pain to have to post and then edit to make things bold. I hope Kenny & Eric can make it easier, because until then I may just have to stick with CAPS, since I don’t have to post and edit to get that to happen.

cleo. you are right. the background was light green with shaded comic stri ballons all over. I liked that colour ERIC. It was soothing to the eyes.

Hi Rad: Yeah, how did you get the big bold print?

I hope I get used to this. when was the last time is was changed? Being new here, this is the first time I’ve seen it change.

What happened to the party on the island. Before I went out for the night, that’s when I said “keep a spot on the sand” Johnnydoc.

I saw doc toon but was still catching up on my reading and missed saying good night to him, and JFri.

Thanks dry. I wonder how I became a pro so fast. does it cost money to become a genius? Cause I’m broke, so I’ll have to keep my current lowly status if that is the case :(

In a way, yeah… I make my post as I usually do, with formatting and “CONTROL+C”to copy it and post.

I then do as edit and “CONTROL+V” to paste my original post OVER my post and enter.

I just do it that way rather than adding all the little formatting symbols again.

This is just until they fix the formatting so we can do it once the first time.

Oh Shikamoo It cost me $11. dollars and some change for a year. VERY WELL WORTH IT! That was for 1 year. I expect the price will go up this year, but my local newspaper is $150. a year and it’s just a local small paper, so do the math with where you are and decide for yourself. I’d cancel my local paper but there are some things I like to keep up on so I keep it, but not for the comics. I can get them here and they only carry 20 strips, most of which I don’t read anyway! The party was cancelled when this site threw us all for a loop! Panic time set in! LOL!!

Anybody still around? I am taking a break from Vicky Christina Barcelona, while my wife gets ready for bed, so am around for a few minutes. Good movie. A man seduces two women by being honest. When I met my wife I decided that I was never going to lie to her and haven’t. It isn’t always the best tactic, but in the end I think that it is the right one and you never have to worry because you have never said anything that you will confuse with another story, because it is the only story.

I want to see us post these kind of numbers when we don’t have a major shift like happened with gocomics. If we could have hit these numbers talking about island songs or what we were going to do on the island that would have been more of an achievement. in my mind. This afternoon was chaos creating posts of what does and doesn’t work.
