Morning Tribe and this is my final good morning (for now). For those of you who didn’t get my announcement yesterday here at “Under The Big Top”, I start work tomorrow at a retail store in nearby Fayetteville, GA., so I won’t be around any more until early 2010.
For my final breakfast treat, I give you the all-time

Oh, I may pop back in on certain holidays (Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day) because this store I work at are one of the last few remaining stores in the U.S. that acknowledges holidays rather legal or not. Good bye everyone. Take care.
Good morning and Happy Monday!! Josh glad you could stop by. Enjoy the job. shika congrats on getting your paper done. You’ve work real hard on it so you should be proud of yourself.

This is an article I just had to share - ROFL

Alright… Who’s the wise-acre who left the whoopie cusion in the lawn chair.
Must have been one of the new neighborhood kids. I KNOW nobody here would do something like that, RIGHT?
Heh, Oh well… I’ll just air it back up and leave it for sombody else.
funny article Dawn. I grew up on a farm and remember seeing my dad come in from the fields plastered in white, but the only time I remember ever being a target was when I lived in California.
Dawn - That article was hilarious. I haven’t (yet) been dumped upon, but as I watch the many eagles, osprey, seagulls and Stellar Jays flying overhead, I do at times cringe at the thought and as I sit in my hot tub I worry that they will do their thing over the tub. The only two memorable moments both involve my wife. Several years ago she was walking to our detached garage and had an eagle lose it’s catch (half a bunny) and it dropped just in front of her. Last year my wife was swimming back to the dock and an eagle began flying in circles around her and I worried, as she did as well, that he might be planning to attack her. All that was above water was her head and predominantly visible was short hair. Sure enough the eagle dives, seemingly for her, but instead hits the water about 8 feet away and snatchs up a fish and flies off.
Doc, who left the whoopie cushion, you, Cleo or JFri?
Man I AM LOVING THIS DAY! Best day all summer so far, hot as all get out, beautiful breeze, but with all that comes thunder bumpers, and we are under a severe thunderstorm watch. And its clouding up. Please don’t storm til nightfall!
I would have been terrified had I been your good wife, Cleo.
I have had the “honour” of being dumped upon. In Ontario, I pointed up to a beautiful oriole in the tree above me. It seems it didn’t like being pointed at. It hit the top of my head - and long blond hair (those were the days.) Another time it was a crow - luckily that time it was on my shoulder - NOT in my hair! I’m sure it was aiming at me because I chased it away from the picnic table. Ah well, it’s supposed to be good luck. Yeh, sure!
You are right Drystyha today is a beautiful day, I woke bright and early this morning feeling good, so I think i’ll spend time with my mom today instead of bugging all of you for a change.
Just checked NOAA’s weather map for us. The whole state is now in what I call magenta! I better go close my blazer windows before I forget! Did that once and had a mess of water to clean out. Yeah, doc and JFri go ahead and snicker!!
Dry - Stay safe!
Salina, KS got quite the t-storm this morning. A church’s steeple got broken off and impaled in the roof of the sanctuary. Picture & story at the link.
http://www.kake.com/home/headlines/52874882.html
Some other news site said the hail was horizontal.
Here it is pouring rain, very unusual for August, but needed. People think WA gets a lot of rain, but in reality we don’t we have a lot of grey, misty days, but heavy rainfall is rare. our annual rainfall is 30 some inches. Houston can get that in a day. July and August are so dry usually, that plants have to be drought tolerant.
Akenta - Funny, that’s almost exactly what JFri was saying at either carmy’s party or my little BBQ. The only differences were that he wasn’t drinking Hawaiian Punch and the tattoo wasn’t on his bicep.
When JFri goes to a party, he rarely remembers it the next day!! He still doesn’t remember us ladies finding him asleep under that picnic table at Carmy’s birthday party!!!!!
Dry - How’s the weather doing in PA? I can hear thunder here - we’ve had some strong storms around here today, but they’ve been missing me. I think this next storm might not miss us, but since there aren’t any watches out, I guess it isn’t expected to do more than rain.
Mine is October the 17th. One week before JFri’s. The best part is that I will be turning 21, and it falls on a Saturday!
Unfortunately, I will likely be scarce that day.
I remember when they changed it from 21 to 17, because I was 17. Then they moved it up to 18, so I lost it for a few months. I always looked so young that I had to show ID until I was almost 30. LOL!
johnnyD I got it down now. The way I see it, we start the party Friday night, and then just have it go the whole weekend. You’ll find a few minutes to pop in and have a drink.
shika I kind of remember when they changed it from 19 to 21 in Florida. My brother just got grandfathered in so it didn’t effect him. Of course, I was younger, so I had to wait - at least for the legal part of it.
johnnyd - No way can you be serious when you say, unfortunately I will not be here on my 21st birthday. My man, you had better be somewhere other than with us. Let loose, let your freak flag fly.
That should be fun Akenta! Too bad we can’t have a real weekend party. The brisk autumn air makes for pleasant days, and it is a great time of year for a bonfire!
Well, Cleo, I didn’t want to seem too excited about missing my birthday with the Tribe! lol
Shika, right now I got a toy construction hat on, and that doesn’t even fit. It must be made for kids with massive craniums! I might have a sombrero somewhere around here, I should wear it to work tomorrow!
I wouldn’t give up any of the years I’ve had so far. But to go back for one day………………Oh boy. My mother always said if she was the mother of a girl I was seeing, she would have locked her up till she was 30!!! LOL
Nice from my own mother. Come to think of it she still talks like that about me. Innocent me!!!
Should I tell you what my mom told about me?
She always said either I’d marry someone who’s crazy, or I’d make him that way. I guess after almost 25 years of marriage, we know my hubby’s crazy!
Whooops! Akenta went to bed! She is my clock! That means I must follow suit.
Hopefully, you bunch of crazies can carry on without me!
Good night all, and Peace & Love!
I know I’ll say it at least a few more times but you’ll definitely have fun on that birthday. Just stop in sometime that weekend for some birthday drinks. It wouldn’t be the same without ya!!!
I was getting ready to post, about an hour ago, and I hear the often heard CRASH! I heard it as soon as it happened. Kind of getting used to it, unfortunately! We live on a street that has a speed limit of 25, a very slight curve at the top of a very small upgrade.coming up the road, very slight curve! We’ve been out here 25 plus years, and as the home building continues out the road, the traffic gets heavier, but most people drive 60 or so, coming up the road, and then they hit the curve! And of course they wreck! Happens once or twice or even three times a year! Some guy in a pick up on the wet road, took it too fast AGAIN, and flipped over. He was trapped in his truck, we were the first ones out there,, so my husband and some guy who stopped went over to the truck. My son and I are screaming at him to get away from there becasue you could smell the gas, but these two broke the window and pulled him out. My husband says, “what was I supposed to do, leave him in there? ” And then some of my sons friends showed up and he was bragging about his dad. I am so sick of this stuff, our neighbors have had their front yard destroyed at least 7 times, our wall was knocked out twice, our utility pole once, not to mention numerous other incidents and pets killed. This was a young guy, probably just got his license, wasn’t drunk or stoned.
When I was growing up, our house was at the bottom of a hill. One day a car came across the lawn and hit the bedroom my sister and I shared. We both fell out of bed screaming. No one was hurt.
Then they put up a cast iron fence around our place, and a car rolled down the hill with no one in it, turned slightly, and went through the gate, down the driveway, and took off the corner of our garage!
Dry - Sounds like you had a bit of excitement! Is there a guardrail or wall to protect the houses? Maybe a speed bump back aways would help. (Or a decent dip.) Our small town has a couple of dips in the road on each side of an intersection that goes all the way through town, for rain drainage. They’ve smoothed it out some, but you still don’t want to go above about 30 (the speed limit) or you risk knocking your muffler or something loose. Before they smoothed it out, you needed to slow down to about 15 or 20 mph.
Shika he must have called his dad, becasue he was there with him shortly thereafter.. Just a young kid, probably just got his license.
About 4 months ago, someone else wrecked, flipped his car over and our neighbor pulled him out. He was three sheets to the wind, in his 20’s we saw the police cuff him and put him in the squad car.
We aren’t surprised anymore when we hear the sound. Two different houses have new owners and they both said they thought they had moved into a quiet neighborhood, We told them” yea it was about 20 years ago!”
It is intersting to watch the firemen work. They are BRAVE and PROFESSIONAL!
Thanks for asking, Shika.
Yep, I’m crazy too - why else am I in this tribe?
Today started out rough, but it is fine now. Got home from CO a little after midnight. We’d turned off the a/c, because it wasn’t working well before we left, so it was 90 degrees inside. Opened up several windows, but it only got down in the mid 70’s, and high humidity, so it didn’t get real cool. The internet wasn’t working either! Called the a/c repairman, went to the library to use their WiFi until the a/c dispatcher called to let me know the repairman was heading to my house. Woke up my geek son (who drove the last several hours) after 11, and thankfully he got the internet to work. Thankfully, the a/c wasn’t really broken. We have a geo-thermal system with coils buried in the ground. We usually have to soak the area they’re buried in during July or August, but since we have had so much rain this summer, didn’t realize we needed to. So, I’m doing good now - internet is up, and the a/c is working well.
I’m fine, I’m used to this by now, and THANK GOD no one has been killed! I get so mad everytime it happens though! Each time I find myself yelling more and more standing out there! The speed limit is 25. And coming down the hill at the intersection there’s a stop sign! Do you know how many times we have heard tire squeals because they can’t get stopped. And just 10 feet away, on that curve, is the bus stop for the kids!
In my teens, I narrowly missed being hit by a car on our lawn. a young man was speeding east down ur street, lost control, spun around and tore up our lawn and smashed a big oak tree- coming to rest facing WEST!
Lonewolf - Never have had to use that maneuver, but I’ve seen it done, and realize how effective it can be. Between the dirty tricks my brothers taught me, and the fact I received the approval for my concealed carry permit today, I’m not an easy target. With homeschooling sons, I’ve had to make sure I’m not a pushover, or they would never have done their work. But my sons are thankful that I’m not easily angered, and never get so angry that I lose control.
Dry - I think I would be very nervous as a parent, to let my kids wait at that bus stop! I am thankful that there are brave men like your husband, firefighters & others who will risk their lives to save someone else’s life.
Good night MoParMitch! Have a good sleep, if a short one.
I only had 4 hours last night, so I won’t be here long.
I spent most of the morning trying to figure out how to print a Power Point Presentation for my course. I’ve taught myself everything the hard way on the computer- no training!
Colorado was beautiful. From what I heard, they had the best weather during the time we were there that they had had in a while. I’ve been to CO lots of times before, as I have relatives living there, plus it is a reasonably close vacation spot for Kansans. Went to my cousin’s church on Sunday. I hadn’t seen her in 17 years, so that was really great. Good service, too. We drove up Pike’s Peak on Saturday. Last time I’d been up on top, I was 5 months pregnant with our youngest. I was in worse shape from the lack of oxygen this time, than I was then. Just lightheadedness, shortness of breath. We stopped at the next place down from the summit for lunch, and I was fine there. We needed to stop anyway, as our brakes were too warm. I got some pictures I need to download, but should be very pretty of the Rockies behind the museum on Peterson AFB. I’ll post one for my avatar when I get around to it.
Thanks Terry It must have been a pain to listen to me talk about it all the time, but I’ve never had such a hard time trying to write a paper. I think I did okay.
Didn’t you wonder why I had so much time on my hands tonight? LOL!
It was fun learning how PP works though. I’m glad I learned how to change my avatar. It came in handy using that skill for the prints I needed for the presentation.
I knew you were done as of early this morning.
I knew why you could yap so much tonight.
I had just forgot to congratulate you dear.
And I was glad you were talking about it all the time.
That always helps mentally and that’s what we’re here for.
Shika - I’ve never taken a computer course, either, so I usually learn the same way you do. Guess it comes from using computers from the time they still used punchcards. I really dislike reading manuals and doing tutorials.
I need to head to bed too, as I haven’t had a whole lot of sleep the last several nights. Since my only student is at camp this week, no school for me! But I need to spend time working on some much procrastinated projects around here, so I will have to pop in & out.
Thanks agian. I’ve said it before, I don’t know what I’d do without the Tribe this summer. It’s been sort of rough for me, but having friends here makes a difference.
That’s scary Dry! Can’t they put up a sign saying sharp curve ahead or something? People in this area have put up “Children playing” signs that sometimes work. But I’m sure you’ve tried everything.
Shika you’ve certainly ad some hair raising experiences!
Hi Terry and Cleo.
It is high enough that the summit is above the timber line. (No trees grow up that high. No grass either, apparently.) And coming from the much lower elevation of Kansas, I’m not used to those heights.
Here’s a quote from pikespeakcolorado.com:
At an altitude of 14,110 feet above sea level, Pikes Peak is the 31st highest peak out of 54 Colorado peaks. It is the farthest east of the big peaks in the Rocky Mountain chain, which contributed to its early fame among explorers, pioneers and immigrants and made it the symbol of the 1859 Gold Rush to Colorado with the slogan, “Pikes Peak or Bust”.
RRAMomThanks. I guess you never know how you’ll react until you are put in that position. And I suspect that old Army training is still there as well.
The bus stop thing, long story, a few of us parents fought the school district on that, literally, but we lost our case. For 5 years during grade school, the parents car pooled our kids from that time forward. I still can’t believe no one has been hurt there yet, but it is an accident waiting to happen!
Dawn do you think people bother to read signs, and its not a sharp curve, very slight, but they take it way too fast.
I’m glad my house sits back off the road, at least!
It’s only 8:15 here so I still have kitchen clean-up but my family went home yesterday so I have been able to be online a little more. I do miss them though - we had a lot of fun.
WOW! Dry, I’m so glad that everyone is okay. Your husband was very brave!
Shika, you have been very lucky, your “force field” is doing an excellent job protecting you.
No Dry, they don’t read signs - although I have seen some slow down at the children playing one - it is quite large although commercial, with a picture of kids - was paid for by donations after a child was killed. It was very sad.
Thanks Dawn. It is frightening. When you hear that sound, I’m just SO GLAD no one has been seriously hurt, in the vehicles or people walking on the street, or people in their front yards. And especially children!
Several years ago when I was pregnant with daughter #2, I was rushing to a doctor appt. It was raining and I was speeding. I came around a curve and a street cleaning truck was in my path and a car was next to me in the left lane. All I could do was hit the brakes and close my eyes. I heard the tires skidding, glass breaking and I had a bloody taste in my mouth. The car came to a stop and I opened my eyes and saw that the truck had turned into a side street. I didn’t hit it or anything else. There wasn’t any broken glass anywhere. Never did that again!
JFri FAT CHANCE OF THAT!!! We share our Regional Police among 5 townships and two boros and they recently fired the Police Chief becasue he spent money on items the “Regional Police Board” (nit wits with an axe to grind) didn’t give permission for. It was items like, new weapons! But they got their nose stuck up the you know what, so.
And he had virtually cracked down on drugs in this county, but now they’re making a comeback!
Don’t forget, I live in an area with set opinions and set beliefs, no matter how wrong they may be!!
Dawn, when I got to my doctor appt, my blood pressure reading was really high. They made me wait a few minutes and when they did it the second time it was normal.
Ain’t technology fun?
Yeh, I hear youDry. That’s what we have too - and districts miles away that have a say in what we get. But oops that’s political so I won’t say it ;>)
dawn yea, I forgot! my bad! I just get super pissed when this keeps happening over and over and over again!
He@@ If I wanted to live on a race track I would have moved near the Pocano Downs!
Terry you tell the pwers that be that. We have had meetings, etc. They are jerks and they control what finally goes down. Yes, I live in the sticks when it comes to common sense!!
Me too! Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have the power? I considered running for a position - then decided - wisely - not to. Would have been too hard on my blood pressure.
Dry, If there had been news reporters there, you and your neighbors could have complained about how dangerous your street is and that your pleas for help keep falling on deaf ears.
The steroid I take is prednisone and at the moment it is at 60mg per day, plus the two previous weeks I had the shot in the ear drum at 125mg each. One of the main side effects is increased blood pressure. It actually magnifies when I over exert myself. If I’m at rest it is only slightly high. So it is not really that bad. The worst part is the emotional up and down associated with it. I snap a little too much at people I care about. I’m lucky they put up with me. Very lucky.
He’s home for awhile. He’s supposed to get some shore duty later this year.
We saw the killer duck the other day. I don’t know if he’s murdered any fowl lately. If he has, my backyard wasn’t the murder scene.

People think WA gets a lot of rain, but in reality we don’t we have a lot of grey, misty days, but heavy rainfall is rare. our annual rainfall is 30 some inches. Houston can get that in a day. July and August are so dry usually, that plants have to be drought tolerant.

Shikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago
Terry Just don’t forget where you are, mister Lonewolf.
:-PShikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago

Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
Lonewolf - Let’s just say after I hit a male someplace that I don’t have the same parts, he isn’t feeling too feisty afterwards.
Shikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago
When I was growing up, our house was at the bottom of a hill. One day a car came across the lawn and hit the bedroom my sister and I shared. We both fell out of bed screaming. No one was hurt.
COWBOY7 over 15 years ago
Shikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago
Then they put up a cast iron fence around our place, and a car rolled down the hill with no one in it, turned slightly, and went through the gate, down the driveway, and took off the corner of our garage!
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
Dry - Sounds like you had a bit of excitement! Is there a guardrail or wall to protect the houses? Maybe a speed bump back aways would help. (Or a decent dip.) Our small town has a couple of dips in the road on each side of an intersection that goes all the way through town, for rain drainage. They’ve smoothed it out some, but you still don’t want to go above about 30 (the speed limit) or you risk knocking your muffler or something loose. Before they smoothed it out, you needed to slow down to about 15 or 20 mph.
COWBOY7 over 15 years ago

Shika he must have called his dad, becasue he was there with him shortly thereafter.. Just a young kid, probably just got his license.
About 4 months ago, someone else wrecked, flipped his car over and our neighbor pulled him out. He was three sheets to the wind, in his 20’s we saw the police cuff him and put him in the squad car.
We aren’t surprised anymore when we hear the sound. Two different houses have new owners and they both said they thought they had moved into a quiet neighborhood, We told them” yea it was about 20 years ago!”

Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago

Lonewolf - Never have had to use that maneuver, but I’ve seen it done, and realize how effective it can be.

And Hi RMom - Enjoy your week off.

Dawn do you think people bother to read signs, and its not a sharp curve, very slight, but they take it way too fast. I’m glad my house sits back off the road, at least!

Good night Dawn. Nice to see you, briefly. Thanks for the laugh. I loved the bird story.
Be good Terry and cleo.
what am I saying?
As you were! LOL

DawnAvril over 15 years ago
No Dry, they don’t read signs - although I have seen some slow down at the children playing one - it is quite large although commercial, with a picture of kids - was paid for by donations after a child was killed. It was very sad.

I am glad, though, Dry, that you and your home have been spared although you have had some property damage.

Dry, I like that your son was “bragging” about his Dad. Wait until your other son hears about it, he’ll be bragging too.

What a horrible experience! I shuddered when I read that, Carmy! Glad you were safe though.

These comments are posting out of sinc again! Carmy, that must have been awful for you! I’m glad all turned out well!

Dry, you need to get the police involved setting up a radar trap!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
JFri FAT CHANCE OF THAT!!! We share our Regional Police among 5 townships and two boros and they recently fired the Police Chief becasue he spent money on items the “Regional Police Board” (nit wits with an axe to grind) didn’t give permission for. It was items like, new weapons! But they got their nose stuck up the you know what, so.
And he had virtually cracked down on drugs in this county, but now they’re making a comeback!
Don’t forget, I live in an area with set opinions and set beliefs, no matter how wrong they may be!!
Dip s h i @ @!

Or speed bumps on the street.
carmy over 15 years ago
Dawn, when I got to my doctor appt, my blood pressure reading was really high. They made me wait a few minutes and when they did it the second time it was normal.

DRY
We got it the first time!!

That’s an eerie story, too!
carmy over 15 years ago
I agree with Lonewolf, they should put some speed bumps on your street, Dry.
The Duke 1 over 15 years ago
Don’t know why, Dry! It’s a money maker for them! Tell the mayor if he wants to get reelected he had BETTER do something! BTW:
i GOT IT THE FIRST TIME!! SNERK!!Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
AND THEY HAVE ALL BEEN DELETED!!! TURDS!!!
carmy over 15 years ago
That’s a good idea too, JFri. “Do something or we won’t vote for you!”
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
JFri Part of the problem is, we have 2 mayors involved and 5 Township Supervisor Boards who can’t agree on anything!!!
Speed bumps, Terry, Carmy, don’t see that happening either!
The Duke 1 over 15 years ago
Why is everybody talking about rain? We haven’t seen any since June!

HUGE POST A FEW BACK?DawnAvril over 15 years ago
Ain’t technology fun? Yeh, I hear youDry. That’s what we have too - and districts miles away that have a say in what we get. But oops that’s political so I won’t say it ;>)
carmy over 15 years ago
Dry, that’s such a ripoff that they won’t do anything to help keep your neighborhood (and especially the residents) safe.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
dawn yea, I forgot! my bad! I just get super pissed when this keeps happening over and over and over again! He@@ If I wanted to live on a race track I would have moved near the Pocano Downs!

Terry Go to , oh never mind! I’d get bleeped!
COWBOY7 over 15 years ago
Dry
I can’t see them not doing anything if there is a bus stop there. And if it is only 25mph, there should not be a problem with speed bumps.
COWBOY7 over 15 years ago
Luv ya Dry!!!! LOL

BTW
((((((((((Carmy))))))))))Hope you feel better soon!
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
Terry you tell the pwers that be that. We have had meetings, etc. They are jerks and they control what finally goes down. Yes, I live in the sticks when it comes to common sense!!
DawnAvril over 15 years ago
Me too! Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have the power? I considered running for a position - then decided - wisely - not to. Would have been too hard on my blood pressure.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
Any way what else is shakin’ around here?
COWBOY7 over 15 years ago
Our blood pressure now! LOL
COWBOY7 over 15 years ago
Oh yeah mine is already high from the steroids.
carmy over 15 years ago
Dry, If there had been news reporters there, you and your neighbors could have complained about how dangerous your street is and that your pleas for help keep falling on deaf ears.
Thanks, JFri! Every day is getting better.
The Duke 1 over 15 years ago
Dawn, you’re a Yappy Nut! You wouldn’t stand a chance of being elected with THAT blight on your record!!
DawnAvril over 15 years ago
Ah but I’m incognito ;>) Mind you there are other things that may have held me back. Ah well - that’s all in the past.
carmy over 15 years ago
Dawn, Lonewolf, is there anything you can do for the high blood pressure? I get steroids as part of my chemo meds, but my BP is always good.
COWBOY7 over 15 years ago
Hey JFri Am I wrong or is that Baron Von R. aka “The Red Baron” on your avatar?

That’s about it - And I’m on a pile of them for different things. And meditation and slow breathing works for some.
COWBOY7 over 15 years ago
Carmy
The steroid I take is prednisone and at the moment it is at 60mg per day, plus the two previous weeks I had the shot in the ear drum at 125mg each. One of the main side effects is increased blood pressure. It actually magnifies when I over exert myself. If I’m at rest it is only slightly high. So it is not really that bad. The worst part is the emotional up and down associated with it. I snap a little too much at people I care about. I’m lucky they put up with me. Very lucky.
carmy over 15 years ago
Dawn I was thinking there was a certain type of vegetable or something that helps keep the BP down naturally.
The Duke 1 over 15 years ago
Terry, you win the cupie doll! Dawn, it’s always your past that haunts your political aspirations!
carmy over 15 years ago
Lonewolf, I agree, you are very lucky!

Dawn, what
:-Dcarmy over 15 years ago
He’s home for awhile. He’s supposed to get some shore duty later this year. We saw the killer duck the other day. I don’t know if he’s murdered any fowl lately. If he has, my backyard wasn’t the murder scene.
