hi Lonewolf thanks for breakfast. (sorry JFri i’ve never heard of Elmer’s except as in Elmer’s Glue - and i’ve never had any desire to eat paste.) hi LW18 as well. lotsa touring to catch up on! i’ll fortify myself with some French toast and a large mug of nuclear coffee. i’ll be around & about.
The strong young man at the construction site was bragging that he could outdo anyone in a feat of strength. He made a special case of making fun of one of the older workmen. After several minutes, the older worker had had enough.
“Why don’t you put your money where your mouth is?” he said. “I will bet a week’s wages that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow over to that building that you won’t be able to wheel back.”
“You’re on, old man,” the young guy replied.
The old man reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles. Then he turned to the young man and said, “Alright. Get in.”
clock on the wall says 3:50 and it’s way past my bedtime. so i’ll be making a “z” or three for the next little while. payday, so it will be a busy morning.
hi Dry, DocT, Grog, DigiFrog, cleo, bunnyface, Marg, Rmom, Akenta (did Lonewolf remember your grits?) Lewreader, Rac, WoodEye, Shika, Marg, Carmy, celecca… (i know i’ve missed someone. sorry.) hope everyone is as well as can be hoped. i’ve missed yappin with y’all.
Good morning. Wow another day with two breakfasts. yyguy, of course lonewolf remembered my grits. Elmer’s had a pretty impressive menu too, but I don’t think they are licensed to sell nuclear coffee.
Cleo - I was somewhat surprised to read the following news today:
A nationwide study reveals Wichita as a “best kept secret” when it comes to food. Wichita was named among ten top cities for foodies. The study based its findings on unique and gourmet restaurants. (The complete article is found at KAKE.com)
We do have a lot of restaurants in Wichita, and even though I prefer “comfort foods” there is a wide range of cuisines available, if you know where to look.
Grog - It is starting to cloud up here now, and the storms are supposed to hit my area in the wee hours of the morning. I hope nothing severe, so the weather alarm won’t wake me up.
Rmom, when you live in an area, the natural tendency seems to be to not think much about it, you know what I mean. People find this area amazing, but I’m so used to it, I take it for granted.
Doc, I don’t have your ability to fall asleep as soon as I hit the pillow. Even if I do fall asleep within the space of a half hour, there are times I wake up and can be wide awake for hours.
Dry - Since I don’t spend time in many other large cities to be able to compare the restaurant selection, it hadn’t occurred to me that Wichita was ranked that high. I know there are certain restaurants my siblings who moved away, try to make a point of eating at when they come back, because they can’t get them where they live.
@Lewreader, I hope you forgive a lame (but original) “old” joke.
A few years back, I went to the eye doctor for the regular checkup, and he told me I am getting presbyopia (“old eyes”). My immediate response as a presbyter (priest/”elder”) was, “That means my eyes are finally catching up to my vocation!”
A truck driver was heading down the highway when he saw a priest at the side of the road. Feeling it was his duty, he stopped to give the priest a ride.
A short time later, he saw a lawyer with a briefcase on the side of the road and aimed his truck at him. At the last second, he thought of the priest with him and realized he couldn’t run over the lawyer, so he swerved, but he heard a thump anyway. Looking back as he drove on, he didn’t see anything. He began to apologize for his behavior to the priest. “I’m sorry, Father. I barely missed that lawyer at the side of the road.”
But the priest said, “Don’t worry, son. I got him with my door.”
My boss just left for the day. There are some things I’m waiting on that I won’t get until Monday. Things will be pretty quiet around here until my meeting tomorrow afternoon at our tech center. Thems the breaks!
Usually my Thursdays are pretty light as it is, but today the class I normally have ended on Tuesday, so I won’t have class next Tuesday either, but I did pick up a shift at work tonight for a friend, so I will have that tonight.
hello everyone. feel good using what is called an ice machine for my rt sholder. rmon we saw too about food place my husband brother and wife would come to the first one mentiond they place pin there since no nu-way where they live
i still has pain thinking little better now have sleep on back rt arm too swoolen. thanks to everyone for good wishes.
Kab ~ It sounds like the ice machine is a very good thing, take it easy and continue to get better. (But you might want to play for all the sympathy you can get from your husband (giggling) ).
Saw you had a Pepsi earlier. Pepsi is definitely underrated down here in SC. Coke (“co-cola”) is the drink of choice here. I grew up with Pepsi. Love it!
Good evening! Slow day under the BT, but with all this nice weather, completely understandable.
Kab - Nu-way is the place my brothers like to go when they are in town. B & C Creations is great for BBQ (Washington and I think 2nd St.), although we went to Nekkid Bubba’s a few weeks ago, and it was delicious. B & C serve buffet style and it is all you can eat, so that makes it a better deal if you’ve got a big eater. Even though I’m not, I do like being able to put just what I want on my plate, and look at it first before deciding. (Only open at lunch, and not everyday.) Sonic isn’t all over the country yet, & my sister loves their onion rings.
Most of the people I have met (and the people they have met) use humor as a way of dealing with their mental illness. I certainly do.
As long as the jokes don’t put someone down for mental illness, especially by implying that being mentally ill is the same as being stupid, I don’t mind.
Some people and organizations are strictly no jokes/humor. But I think it is a case of:
Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, they will never cease to be amused.
Well - a mommy jelly bean and a daddy jelly bean get together and make jelly bean sprouts. Then,….
Jelly beans are made from a slurry of corn syrup and other ingredient and poured into jelly bean-shaped cornstarch molds. They dry for 24 hours, then are dumped out of their molds. Then they are steamed and rolled in sugar so they won’t stick to each other. Then they are dumped into something that reminds me of a cement mixer, and colors, flavors, and wax are poured over them until they are brightly colored and shiny.
Terry - Fighting a migraine, so I may not be as yappy tonight, unless I can master it. It was coming on earlier, took a pill, but it is starting to come back. I’m hoping some supper will help, so trying to eat a quick bite.
Lonewolf, I hadn’t noticed any recent comments, so I didn’t think you were still reading it. Doc T said I would like it, wonder if he regrets that after today. (maniacal giggles)
Thanks for letting me know, LuvH8! I didn’t think it was offensive, or I wouldn’t have posted it. But sometimes people don’t see it the same way I do.
celecca - I’ve had worse migraines & more often. The doctor put me on a beta blocker which keeps them to less than 10 a month, and the Imitrex usually knocks them out. Most don’t take a 2nd pill, but this one might. I’ve got certain triggers that set them off, and I can’t do much to avoid all of them.
Rmom ~ I would of let you know yesterday, but I was trying to think how to phrase it right. I have a list of ‘WARNING SIGNS OF INSANITY’ I am thinking of posting one every morning before I go to bed. I thought it would be amusing (especially Lewreader’s reactions)
Grog ~ What name are you using on Photobucket, and did you know the person who took ‘grog’ has no pictures?
Very Rude!
Dry - I’m here. Once the caffiene in the Imitrex kicks in and the migraine leaves, I’ll be much more yappy. That was the main symptom for why mine are classified as migraines - when I have them, I’m not social.
LuvH8 - Seeing as both of my parents had dementia, I’m not unaware of mental health symptoms to watch out for. There were times I was concerned that I might be getting dementia, but our counselor assured me that it was because I had so many “irons in the fire”. I do notice my memory (both long & short-term) has slipped considerably during my adult years.
But I am of the belief that no one is completely normal, some are just more abnormal than others.
Hi Doc T, are you enjoying your coffee?
BTW ~ What color of paint?
Yes, I know what you mean Lonewolf, I wish there was some way of only reading the entertaining strips/panels by any given cartoonist. Especially the panels, where there isn’t a story line to follow.
Rmom i”ve been fortunate, never had migranes, but I have a friend who does. She’s such a sweet soul, and it knocks her down for quite awhile, she gets really ill with it. Only hits her a couple of times a year, but when it does,it’s bad. I think hers is related to stress.
Doc - I’ve heard that saying before, and I think my mom might have tried to pin it on us. I guess that’s one time having several siblings helped - in comparison to the others, I was the “good kid” - well, except for about seven years….
Rmom ~ This is supposed to be a funny list. I’m sorry about your husband & family, but glad you know the signs. A lot of times physical ailments (often vitamin or mineral deficiency) cause symptoms that mimic some mental illnesses. I have to take Calcium, Vitamin D, iron and fish oil daily as well as my medications. If I don’t my symptoms get worse.
I’m having a really late dinner here. The phone keeps ringing, and I was trying to bake. I finally got the loaf in the oven, and now I’m having my first course.
Shika - Thankfully with the meds, my migraines are pretty manageable. Only once in a great while will I have to lie down until the meds kicks in. I’m hoping that sooner or later that I won’t have the hormonal trigger, and then it will only be stress, lack of sleep, lack of food, cold, or caffeine withdrawal to cause them.
Dry - Your friend’s sound similar to mine. Mine seem the most triggered by adreneline (sp?) - good or bad stress, as well.
I am a novice with a digital camara - especially a camara so small I can hide in my fist. Some room for improvement, but I’m still awed by some of my sunrise shots.
Not in your case LuvH8. But there were a lot of people I used to work with who were more interesting either after I consumed enough alcohol - they did - or both!
rmom Her good times are good times, and no migraines. it’s when she is overwhelmed that the headaches kick in. Then she gets sick to her stomach, etc. I feel so bad for her .It’s a chemical imbalance in her system. That the doctors do know. They just don’t know how to fix it to cure her. They keep tryiing different things for her.
My problem with such a small camara, is making sure that the picture is properly aligned with the horizon. Many turn out lobsided, even though the shots are properly aligned before I take the photo.
Dry - I am very thankful (for the answers to prayer) that I didn’t get ill during the whole time I was so overwhelmed with getting Mom’s house emptied. But it is very frustrating to be at an event that I want to be at, and then getting one of those relentless migraines. Thankfully, it doesn’t happen very often, since the doctor put me on a beta blocker. (Atenolol - a blood pressure med, but helps to keep my adrenaline level more even, even though I don’t have high blood pressure.)
There were these two cows, chatting over the fence between their fields. The first cow said, “I tell you, this mad-cow-disease is really pretty scary. They say it is spreading fast; I heard it hit some cows down on the Johnson Farm.”
The other cow replies, “I ain’t worried, it don’t affect us ducks.”
Doc, my brother had a flea market stand for years before he died. He sold Elvis memorabilia among other items. Being that he was in a wheel chair at the time my sisters and I would help him out on the weekends. You’re right, it was interesting to say the least.
Carmy, Yard sales are a LOT of work, did two, now my kids want to do a big one.” Oh we can make a lot of money!” Yeah right! You figure what you make against the time put into it, I DON”T THINK SO!
Shika, and it’s true! LOL, I never realize how tight I tie up my hair. BTW, I’m blessed to even have hair, it has thinned out a bit from meds, etc. It used to be very thick.
I’ve been donating, not shopping too. Not that I’m proud, it is usually because I’m in a hurry when I’m in town. I was thinking today that I need to get my 20 year old to start shopping for his clothes at Goodwill. He latches onto a certain style, and doesn’t want to change, even though his are wearing out. I was ironing patches on his khaki cargo shorts this morning, so he could wear them. His are elastic waist and about knee length, neither of which I can find new anymore.
I’m at the point in life, I want to either get a dumpster and toss things and let the waste management take it away (not for free of course, but out of my sight and space) or donate to Goodwill, Salvation Army., my Catholic Church Thrift Shop) so I don’t have to deal with it!
Grog, down south in the Rio Grande Valley, about 6 hours from the Houston area. When I drive to Texas from FL, I drive in on I-10 and take 59 to Victoria, then 77 to the RGV.
Carmy - You are lucky to have hair like that! My ponytail is only about 2-3 inches long, so looks rather odd, and my hair won’t grow any longer. (And even with that short of ponytail, I have to use combs around my face, or the front strands will fall out.) I’ve found a thingamagig that I can wrap my hair up in that makes it look like a bun, or else I use a visor, but ponytails just don’t work well for me.
Grog ~ go to the downward pointing arrow next to the search box on the top right hand side of your screen. When your cursor is over it a list will appear move down the list until you come to people. Click on people and enter the name of the person whose album you wish to see. Rmom goes by RRAmom. Yyyguy is yyyguy.
Thanks, Grog! Yes, I do love sunsets, which was the main attraction this property had for me. I’m currently uploading my lilac and/or redbud pictures, so if you’re interested in them, check back later.
Shika, no, I don’t know him. I’ve heard the chemo nurses tell patients that when they loose all their hair, it will often grow back as it was when they were a child.
I recently saw a friend from Puerto Rico who had lost all her hair from chemo. It recently grew back and it looks beautiful!
Carmy I saw him in person. He ran across Canada in the 70’s. With only one leg, and a false leg. He died when he reached Thunder Bay. The cancer went to his lungs. He raised over $20 million that year. They have a Terry Fox run every year for cancer research.
@Carmy, I saw a young kid a few years ago with the nicest long, curly hair–looked like a girl, only the mom didn’t want to cut off that first baby growth because her son would lose the great curls.
I suspect in ten-fifteen years, she’s gonna go broke paying for the therapy for her kid’s “issues” from being called a girl so often before he was two…
bunnyface That is so true. Mom’s don’t stop to think do they? One mother used girls clothes on her son, because she thought he was too young to care, and he had a bigger sister. Huh!?
True story from the life of Rmom!
Tonight as we were driving through our small (not even a stoplight) town, there were 3 or 4 farm boys hanging around a farm truck across from the high school. It looked like they had come straight from their farms to come to the booming metropolis to have a rousing good time. I made mention to my youngest son that I could just see them dragging the streets in that farm truck. Well, to him, the term “drag” has a whole ‘nother meaning! His older brother had to interpret for me, and tell him I meant cruising the streets. I got laughing so hard, imagining those farm boys in drag, I could barely see to drive!
Sandy began a job as an elementary school counselor and she was eager to help. One day during recess she noticed a girl standing by herself on one side of a playing field while the rest of the kids enjoyed a game of soccer at the other. Sandy approached and asked if she was all right. The girl said she was. A little while later, however, Sandy noticed the girl was in the same spot, still by herself. Approaching again, Sandy offered, “Would you like me to be your friend?”
The girl hesitated, then said, “Okay,” looking at the woman suspiciously.
Feeling she was making progress, Sandy then asked, “Why are you standing here all alone?”
“Because,” the little girl said with great exasperation, “I’m the goalie!”
Doc T ~ two fingers? Oh my! Monkey 2 types with two fingers, I wish she would touch type because I know she learned how. I am very glad that I learned to touch type. It makes it very much easier to ‘talk’ to much.
Shika, I remember Terry Fox now. He was a good man.
buunyface, that poor boy. I remember reading that Charles Bronson wore his sister’s hand me downs when he was a young boy. He grew up to quite “macho.”
Yer reedng iz az gud az yer ritin!
Doc - Just be thankful your keyboard isn’t accessible to my hubby. As a prank, he switched a couple of keys around on a co-worker who used the “search & destroy” method of typing. (All the rest in their department touch-typed.) The co-worker kept thinking his computer was messed up, but no one else had the same trouble he did with it.
Good night, Grog!
I’ve got to head to bed myself. I’ve got my lilacs uploaded now, in the album “Spring has sprung”
Spring has sprung,
The grass has riz,
I wonder where
the robin is.
Dry, Um, not too much, I just have to finish up some of the yard work, vacuum the house, do some grocery shopping, make some bread for dinner and take daughter #3 to the eye doctor.

Just dropping by to say hello. I’m going out for what is left of the day.
Sorry I disappeared last night. I needed a break from the computer and sat in my rocking chair with peaceful music and a good book to read.
A good book being any book I don’t have to study!

Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago

Hello Rmom,
Regarding jokes about mental illness:
Most of the people I have met (and the people they have met) use humor as a way of dealing with their mental illness. I certainly do.
As long as the jokes don’t put someone down for mental illness, especially by implying that being mentally ill is the same as being stupid, I don’t mind.
Some people and organizations are strictly no jokes/humor. But I think it is a case of:
Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, they will never cease to be amused.

Hello Celecca, Lonewolf & Rmom
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago
Lonewolf ~ Thank you!
Do you have a bunny one for when Bunnyface gets back? What would work for Grog? (I think I’ve started a trend.)
celeconecca over 14 years ago
Well - a mommy jelly bean and a daddy jelly bean get together and make jelly bean sprouts. Then,….
Jelly beans are made from a slurry of corn syrup and other ingredient and poured into jelly bean-shaped cornstarch molds. They dry for 24 hours, then are dumped out of their molds. Then they are steamed and rolled in sugar so they won’t stick to each other. Then they are dumped into something that reminds me of a cement mixer, and colors, flavors, and wax are poured over them until they are brightly colored and shiny.
There’s your educational moment for the day!
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago

Thanks for letting me know, LuvH8! I didn’t think it was offensive, or I wouldn’t have posted it. But sometimes people don’t see it the same way I do. celecca - I’ve had worse migraines & more often. The doctor put me on a beta blocker which keeps them to less than 10 a month, and the Imitrex usually knocks them out. Most don’t take a 2nd pill, but this one might. I’ve got certain triggers that set them off, and I can’t do much to avoid all of them.

Rmom ~ This is supposed to be a funny list. I’m sorry about your husband & family, but glad you know the signs. A lot of times physical ailments (often vitamin or mineral deficiency) cause symptoms that mimic some mental illnesses. Then i found out that I was going to seminary, and wish I had some books back. I have three book caases full, and more stacked.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago

Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Shika - Thankfully with the meds, my migraines are pretty manageable. Only once in a great while will I have to lie down until the meds kicks in. I’m hoping that sooner or later that I won’t have the hormonal trigger, and then it will only be stress, lack of sleep, lack of food, cold, or caffeine withdrawal to cause them. Dry - Your friend’s sound similar to mine. Mine seem the most triggered by adreneline (sp?) - good or bad stress, as well.
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago

Dry - I am very thankful (for the answers to prayer) that I didn’t get ill during the whole time I was so overwhelmed with getting Mom’s house emptied. But it is very frustrating to be at an event that I want to be at, and then getting one of those relentless migraines. Thankfully, it doesn’t happen very often, since the doctor put me on a beta blocker. (Atenolol - a blood pressure med, but helps to keep my adrenaline level more even, even though I don’t have high blood pressure.)

Carmy - You are lucky to have hair like that! My ponytail is only about 2-3 inches long, so looks rather odd, and my hair won’t grow any longer. (And even with that short of ponytail, I have to use combs around my face, or the front strands will fall out.) True story from the life of Rmom!

Approaching again, Sandy offered, “Would you like me to be your friend?” The girl hesitated, then said, “Okay,” looking at the woman suspiciously. Feeling she was making progress, Sandy then asked, “Why are you standing here all alone?” “Because,” the little girl said with great exasperation, “I’m the goalie!”

He grew up to quite “macho.” Yer reedng iz az gud az yer ritin!

I thought the 2-finger typist went by way of the dinosaur typewriter - and I’m not talking IBM Selectrics!
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Doc - Just be thankful your keyboard isn’t accessible to my hubby. As a prank, he switched a couple of keys around on a co-worker who used the “search & destroy” method of typing. (All the rest in their department touch-typed.) The co-worker kept thinking his computer was messed up, but no one else had the same trouble he did with it.
