I’d make my own but I’m an ignorant male who could not tell a sauce pan from a fry pan. Which do you use to crush ice? Luckily the lovely LUVH8 has offered to make me eggs and blueberry pancakes, Heavy on the real butter and New England maple syrup please’
Morning TRIBE! I have both digital and analogue clocks but my cats always think it’s time to eat whenever I get up’ I could fool them and sleep till 8.
I’ve really been enjoying the 60th Aniversary Beetle Bailey toons that have been running all week. I think today’s show’s a bit more of the evolution of the strip.
Doc,Doonsberry & Garfield were in my local papers for years it seems. Can’t say I was ever a fan of Doonsberry, but I think my paper back home only picked up Garfield after the serious changes to Garfield took place.
I have the original B.C. strips in my collection and have read the Peanuts archives online dating back to 1950. It’s interesting to see the physical changes and the additions or dropping of characters from strips, such as the sudden disappearance of Seahawk in Overboard while adding Raymond, Jonas & Scratch over time.
Like in the case of Peanuts, I wish some of these strips had been retired when the original artist retired/died. I feel pretty strongly about that with Adam@Home and to some degree with B.C.. Blondie, Hi & Lois & Beetle Bailey on the other hand, seems to have transitioned nicely in my opinion.
It seems that many of my professors couldn’t even speak English in my first year or two of University (particularly calculus) but they only began speaking Jibberish in my last year.
I thought comics dot com had them also but I haven’t been there in a long time. Don’t remember. They have so many site problems from time to time that i quit going there. Plus, I don’t like their comment section. Seattle PI is pretty good.
Doc,B.C. is the closest thing I have to a true collection, but I do have a fair number of Peanuts, the only 3 Adam@Home releases and a few Dilbert hard-covers. And then there’s the Authoritative Calvin & Hobbes I also recently ordered the recent release of Imagine This.
Wouldn’t it be great if Thom were to release a collection of Birdbrains strips?
Well Seattle PI carries them every day and if I remember correctly other long-running strips like Hagar the Horrible, Hi & Lois, Zits and a fairly large selection of other strips as well, including a few that also appear here.
Doc, these day’s I’m not sure there are too many strips I’d truly classify as children’s books, yet they are classified as such just because they are cartoons.
Another gardener’s dreams are dashed! Way to go. Dusty!
Morning Fellow Baby and Doc. You can find those srips and many others also at Reed Berman’s DailyInk.com, a part of King Features syndicate. They also have about 10 ? vintage strips that are no longer in print, and the original Beetle Bailey’s.
Dusty, you should talk. Many dogs I know not only can stand much nastier smells, but they roll in them. To repoint your own question, they do it again and again - and for what? :))
Good soon afternoon everyone wishing all a safe Labor Day. I guess where going to my mom’s again and barbque.
Though one class doesn’t start until Oct got a start and a lot of work.
Not sure if JAD has posted using a different name on a different strip someone else brought it up.
Wishing everyone a safe and sunny day for Labor Day weekend.
Sister Kab the other classes I’m taking are College math Mainly Algebra, computer training, since I need to brush up on my skills especially typing, and a course in English.
As for my accounting class, I’m pretty sure we’ll get to do some projects. I’ve got four years to learn this subject to get a Bachelors Degree, but I want to go further. I want to go all the way for a masters degree.

Am I to believe that it’s not too late for breakfast? Excellent. LuvH8, Could I get a double order of pancakes (blueberry or peach) with real Vermont maple syrup and a Jug of Doc’s Nuked bev?? THANKS so much
I don’t feel very well. I don’t know what’s in the air but it is messing with my sinuses right now, so I think I’ll take a nap and hope that I will feel better later.
Ummm…. I just use whatever pan or pot seems to work. I don’t really know the names, I didn’t know there is a sauce pan. Does that make me an ignorant male?
Catching up on old comments: Someone mentioned late Friday about the CIS shows being not worth commenting on. I tend to agree. I especially like them being able to take video, especially from security cameras, and “enhancing” it to read text, show portrait-quality faces, and the like.
Uh, guys, if the data is not there, it’s not there. No amount of “enhancement” is going to get you accurate results. Like the old computer saying, GIGO.
If you want some ‘where did that come from’ comments, go to For Better or for Worse or Gasoline Alley on FBoFW it seems the mother can never do anything correctly. GA* keeps moaning for it to go back to (whatever character isn’t being featured and disses continually the current story line.

Re: Local (High School) football:
Last Friday (8/27): after two funerals in as many days, plus a wedding that afternoon, driving home from the reception I passed by the field at halftime. It was 42-6, so I kept going. Final score was something like 56-14.
Then this past week, I went, as it was supposed to be a much tougher opponent. It was. When I got there it was 16-8. Before I got on field to see properly, it was 24-8. When I left after the half, it was 32-14. They got a few more TDs after that. Which was pretty good, since most of the sports people thought we would lose.
Still, the school south of us is really good, so it’s unlikely we’ll have much chance once we get into the playoffs–if we do.
LuvH8 said, about 19 eye exams ago
The first time I got glasses, I was amazed I could see leaves on trees.
I know the feeling. Seeing candle flames was a trip too.
What’s more, I kept getting more and more nearsighted, so I had a refresher experience every 3-4 years, when I got a stronger prescription.
BMONK What I love about the cop shows is the detectives go in the lab and do tech work and the lab techs go in the field and do detective and flatfoot work. Er, you are a medical doctor and you carry a gun?
Off subject. You would not guess how incompetent in the kitchen I am in the eyes of SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED. My late wife found my Betty Crocker Search for the Homemaker of Tomorrow Award (first male to win 72). I got stuck at the stove. A later girlfriend was astute enough to say, Hey you lived by yourself for 30 years. If you didn’t cook, how did you eat?” Marched me in the kitchen. The last time I was asked to cook I said, “Sure, I’ll make soup. Where’s the bologna?”Making a milkshake without a cover helped too.
Hello I’m back will be reading text book. I have a microwave and I have cooked potatoes in micro.
Me I’ve been wearing glasses since before I could remember, also bifocals since 28 yold and I’m way older now.
For my courses all I can say I’m glad it’s online don’t know if I could memorize all those terms.
And got my confirmation for next two Sats may not be on computer for GC will be involved in state fair helping sister and b/i/l with both.
OTOH, I’ve had some reading glasses since I was mid-40s. Even used them a few times. Especially with small type or dim light or both. But mostly I don’t need them, or bifocals. (Yet.)
I started wearing glasses in 4th grade for distance. Didn’t like wearing glasses. At work in my early 20’s I took off my glasses at work. I worked on a light table looking at film. I left them off durning walks at lunch. The boss also told me about a story he read in Prevention magazine about not wearing glasses to force your eyes to get better so I quit wearing them and my eyes did get better. Passed every driving and flying test since then. In my 50’s I knew I could see better if I had them even though I didn’t need them so got some for better vision. With them I can see a lot better than normal and now reading glasses help - old age strikes again! LOL
Hi, tribe!
Going back to a couple of conversations…
I get my comics from 3 sites (and this order of preference if a strip is carried on more than one.)
Gocomics, comics.com and Seattle PI. I rarely look at the comments on c.com, unless I’m not “getting” the joke. Seattle PI now has a free registration that lets you select the ones you want to read, but they’ll only put about 4 or so on a page, and then you have to click on “next page”. However, that does cut down the number of mouse clicks necessary to read my choices.
Hello again just watched the news. It’s quite here. Me when I was growing up don’t know if I where to try not to wear glasses would not help my bad eye, Lt one. My son when he was small same problem different eye, eye Dr. had him wear eye patch poor sole and can imagine how ridiculed he was. But he stated faithfull to this and after he got through HS and was able to finish lesser hours of patching he no longer wears glasses. When he was small he tried anything to get rid of his glasses including when another kid help him to. Other kid got in trouble with his parent’s.
Daughter still has to wear glasses but likes contacts. She doesn’t wear all the time she needs them for distance.
Mine upper part is for distant lower one for reading.
Rmom we went to Dillion’s got some grilled chicken 10 for $10 since so windy and hubby didn’t want to grill, didn’t know b/i/l had to pick niece up and head to Hillsboro as older brother turned 60. It won’t do me any good to wish him happy BD for I don’t know him, we weren’t involved to much with that family expect parents and would be strangers. My own sister didn’t go as she had other things to do. B/I/L older brother is mentally retired as retardation runs in each family and they are aware of it.
Kab sounds like you and your son have lazy eye. You’re most likely ‘blind’ in the bad one as the brain will ignore the signal from the bad one (you do still have periferial vision). By patching the good eye, it forces the ‘lazy’ eye to work and strengthens it. They can find it earlier these days, by the time my brother’s was caught in the early 60’s they were just starting patching and it was too late for him.
Quaby your right I did have lazy eye my left and no there was no patching in 60’s I know I was in that area as I was born last day in 55. I don’t know if there where Ped’s eye Dr. back then. The one my mom took me took knew what he was doing back then now it’s far to late and yes my vision on my left eye is very low my right has to do biggest of work that is why I don’t like driving examines where one has to look in small screen for each eye, one that I did I passed with my Rt eye and warned the examiner I would not pass with my Lt eye they let me through. I usually like to go to eye Dr. to get this done and I tell mostly him what I expect and how hard it is for me. He say’s it’s to late for me and I said duh I know that, wish they did that when I was a kid.
Wolfie - We almost had rewarmed grilled hamburgers with homemade fries, but my hubby said he’d rather do the chicken fried steak. He’s working tomorrow, but I think it is supposed to be windy again, so grilling wouldn’t be on the schedule anyway.
I’ve tried to talk him into moving the grill to somewhere other than the deck, but he doesn’t want go to the trouble.
Thanks, Grog! I pulled all our miscellaneous (non-series) children’s books off the shelves. I’m going through them to see which ones I’ll keep & box up, and which ones to get rid of. Luv’s jokes reminded me there was at least one joke book (probably more) in the collection.
Kab - No need. My hubby won’t want to go. I’m trying to decide if I should ask my friend to go during the week. I’ve not gone very often with other females, so it might be more enjoyable than going with my guys. Especially since we seem to have a lot of interests in common.
If you decide to go during week you might see my sister and brother-in-law as their the next ones to take over. I will give you one hint. Mustard not like Frenches either. Brother-in-law has a beard sister is blonde and heard all the blonde jokes. Her hubby likes to tease with them.
During the week won’t be so crowded either but usually that’s when weather changes. I can’t go during week as I work pt. Long hours for them 9 to 9.
Watching (a repeat of earlier today) Women’s World Cup Rugby - England vs. New Zealand. I’m for New Zealand. In Rugby Union the New Zealand All Blacks is my favoiit team. Rob in Get Fuzzy sometimes refers to that team.
Wolfie - I don’t think he enjoys it quite as much as you do. The next house I’ll think more about where to put the grill, so it is more comfortable. I can’t say as I blame him when it is over 90F and sunny. It is too windy for a patio table umbrella to survive, and we catch a lot of wind where we’re at now. Saturdays he’s too busy trying to take care of vehicle problems and other chores around here. Sunday afternoons he needs to get a nap in before the week starts. I’m sure once he’s down to a 50 hour week, he’ll grill a bit more often - though never as often as you do.
Yes, Hi to you too, Lonewolf Even though you don’t like basketball…come to think of it Grog doesn’t either.
Oh well, I like it along with football, golf, and of course, baseball.
Grog this homemade mustard is milder like a dressing and they have jalapeno to. My hubby likes hot toppings for food.
I guess I’m going to call it a night hope to get some sleep, I was up until 1:30 am and read until that time. Next chapter of text will be interesting to me since I have to deal bodily with it is nerve system.
Good night all Rmom it’s up to you what you do.
I’m just an extra helper it takes an army to help as there will be three sets for people. I think there are 6 flavors.
And if I don’t fall asleep I will read my text as on-line class starts 20.
Kab - I don’t think that is Joe. Baslim’s been around a while, and Joe didn’t seem to comment on Calvin. My filter won’t let me read GA today, and that isn’t on my usual list, so don’t know. But I know which strips were Joe’s favorite haunts, and after his very brief attempt at getting around his banning, I haven’t seen anyone who writes like him consistantly.
I once thought of going to New Zealand when riding bicycles a lot but found out what you could do just as the oppertunity was about over. There was a lack of good bicycles there. You could buy a good bike, go to New Zealand for a couple of weeks traveling on your bike, then sell it there for enough to pay for the bike and your trip.

Hi Kab Buch.

OTOH, I’ve had some reading glasses since I was mid-40s. Even used them a few times. Especially with small type or dim light or both. But mostly I don’t need them, or bifocals. (Yet.)

Hi, Tribesters!
Done for the day with the car work. Soon it is grillin’ time in the backyard!!
George Arnold over 14 years ago
LOL

Hi, tribe! Going back to a couple of conversations… I get my comics from 3 sites (and this order of preference if a strip is carried on more than one.) Gocomics, comics.com and Seattle PI.

Mine upper part is for distant lower one for reading.
kab2rb over 14 years ago

Long hours for them 9 to 9.

kab2rb over 14 years ago
From being at the State fair I will be busy trying to get people to try, homemade mustard another clue is more like a dressing type different flavors.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago

Kab - If I decide to go, I’ll let you know.

What did one eye say to the other?

Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago

GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Well they may not have good bikes, but they sure know how to play rugby.
