Doc,Doonsberry & Garfield were in my local papers for years it seems. Can’t say I was ever a fan of Doonsberry, but I think my paper back home only picked up Garfield after the serious changes to Garfield took place.

I have the original B.C. strips in my collection and have read the Peanuts archives online dating back to 1950. It’s interesting to see the physical changes and the additions or dropping of characters from strips, such as the sudden disappearance of Seahawk in Overboard while adding Raymond, Jonas & Scratch over time.

Like in the case of Peanuts, I wish some of these strips had been retired when the original artist retired/died. I feel pretty strongly about that with Adam@Home and to some degree with B.C.. Blondie, Hi & Lois & Beetle Bailey on the other hand, seems to have transitioned nicely in my opinion.

Hmmm. Perhaps that’s why I didn’t like it, Doc.

Didn’t they ever print Doonsbury compilations in paperback (like B.C. & Peanuts)?

I know in the case of B.C., I can use the books as a reference for questions I or others might have on the strip.

Doc, B.C. is the closest thing I have to a true collection, but I do have a fair number of Peanuts, the only 3 Adam@Home releases and a few Dilbert hard-covers. And then there’s the Authoritative Calvin & Hobbes I also recently ordered the recent release of Imagine This.

Wouldn’t it be great if Thom were to release a collection of Birdbrains strips?

Catching up on old comments: Someone mentioned late Friday about the CIS shows being not worth commenting on. I tend to agree. I especially like them being able to take video, especially from security cameras, and “enhancing” it to read text, show portrait-quality faces, and the like.

Uh, guys, if the data is not there, it’s not there. No amount of “enhancement” is going to get you accurate results. Like the old computer saying, GIGO.

    Edit: add:

Re: Local (High School) football: Last Friday (8/27): after two funerals in as many days, plus a wedding that afternoon, driving home from the reception I passed by the field at halftime. It was 42-6, so I kept going. Final score was something like 56-14.

Then this past week, I went, as it was supposed to be a much tougher opponent. It was. When I got there it was 16-8. Before I got on field to see properly, it was 24-8. When I left after the half, it was 32-14. They got a few more TDs after that. Which was pretty good, since most of the sports people thought we would lose.

Still, the school south of us is really good, so it’s unlikely we’ll have much chance once we get into the playoffs–if we do.

BMONK What I love about the cop shows is the detectives go in the lab and do tech work and the lab techs go in the field and do detective and flatfoot work. Er, you are a medical doctor and you carry a gun?

Off subject. You would not guess how incompetent in the kitchen I am in the eyes of SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED. My late wife found my Betty Crocker Search for the Homemaker of Tomorrow Award (first male to win 72). I got stuck at the stove. A later girlfriend was astute enough to say, Hey you lived by yourself for 30 years. If you didn’t cook, how did you eat?” Marched me in the kitchen. The last time I was asked to cook I said, “Sure, I’ll make soup. Where’s the bologna?”Making a milkshake without a cover helped too.

I started wearing glasses in 4th grade for distance. Didn’t like wearing glasses. At work in my early 20’s I took off my glasses at work. I worked on a light table looking at film. I left them off durning walks at lunch. The boss also told me about a story he read in Prevention magazine about not wearing glasses to force your eyes to get better so I quit wearing them and my eyes did get better. Passed every driving and flying test since then. In my 50’s I knew I could see better if I had them even though I didn’t need them so got some for better vision. With them I can see a lot better than normal and now reading glasses help - old age strikes again! LOL

Hi, tribe! Going back to a couple of conversations… I get my comics from 3 sites (and this order of preference if a strip is carried on more than one.) Gocomics, comics.com and Seattle PI. I rarely look at the comments on c.com, unless I’m not “getting” the joke. Seattle PI now has a free registration that lets you select the ones you want to read, but they’ll only put about 4 or so on a page, and then you have to click on “next page”. However, that does cut down the number of mouse clicks necessary to read my choices.

Hello again just watched the news. It’s quite here. Me when I was growing up don’t know if I where to try not to wear glasses would not help my bad eye, Lt one. My son when he was small same problem different eye, eye Dr. had him wear eye patch poor sole and can imagine how ridiculed he was. But he stated faithfull to this and after he got through HS and was able to finish lesser hours of patching he no longer wears glasses. When he was small he tried anything to get rid of his glasses including when another kid help him to. Other kid got in trouble with his parent’s. Daughter still has to wear glasses but likes contacts. She doesn’t wear all the time she needs them for distance. Mine upper part is for distant lower one for reading.

Rmom we went to Dillion’s got some grilled chicken 10 for $10 since so windy and hubby didn’t want to grill, didn’t know b/i/l had to pick niece up and head to Hillsboro as older brother turned 60. It won’t do me any good to wish him happy BD for I don’t know him, we weren’t involved to much with that family expect parents and would be strangers. My own sister didn’t go as she had other things to do. B/I/L older brother is mentally retired as retardation runs in each family and they are aware of it.

Kab sounds like you and your son have lazy eye. You’re most likely ‘blind’ in the bad one as the brain will ignore the signal from the bad one (you do still have periferial vision). By patching the good eye, it forces the ‘lazy’ eye to work and strengthens it. They can find it earlier these days, by the time my brother’s was caught in the early 60’s they were just starting patching and it was too late for him.

Quaby your right I did have lazy eye my left and no there was no patching in 60’s I know I was in that area as I was born last day in 55. I don’t know if there where Ped’s eye Dr. back then. The one my mom took me took knew what he was doing back then now it’s far to late and yes my vision on my left eye is very low my right has to do biggest of work that is why I don’t like driving examines where one has to look in small screen for each eye, one that I did I passed with my Rt eye and warned the examiner I would not pass with my Lt eye they let me through. I usually like to go to eye Dr. to get this done and I tell mostly him what I expect and how hard it is for me. He say’s it’s to late for me and I said duh I know that, wish they did that when I was a kid.

Brother-in-law has a beard sister is blonde and heard all the blonde jokes. Her hubby likes to tease with them. During the week won’t be so crowded either but usually that’s when weather changes. I can’t go during week as I work pt. Long hours for them 9 to 9.

Wolfie - I don’t think he enjoys it quite as much as you do. The next house I’ll think more about where to put the grill, so it is more comfortable. I can’t say as I blame him when it is over 90F and sunny. It is too windy for a patio table umbrella to survive, and we catch a lot of wind where we’re at now. Saturdays he’s too busy trying to take care of vehicle problems and other chores around here. Sunday afternoons he needs to get a nap in before the week starts. I’m sure once he’s down to a 50 hour week, he’ll grill a bit more often - though never as often as you do.

I once thought of going to New Zealand when riding bicycles a lot but found out what you could do just as the oppertunity was about over. There was a lack of good bicycles there. You could buy a good bike, go to New Zealand for a couple of weeks traveling on your bike, then sell it there for enough to pay for the bike and your trip.
