The tree on the left is two-faced. She’s talking to the upper face.

“Bonnie” is the one with the girlish figure. Maybe “Clyde” is just fruity.

THOM The mail lady just delivered your package. You promised a “plain white envelope but you had to mess with my fragile mind. Not one but Two faces for her to see. I hope she doesn’t deliver to my shrink. I try to tell him I have healthy associations.

Thank You again THOM Now I can rise from my bed of depression and go see the professional framer (no not my lawyer). I have a place of honor on the wall picked out.

People’s ideas of what is “really” in the Bible are not really “birdbrained ideas”. I consider that when people disagree with me about what’s in the Bible, that is their opinion or belief. I leave it at that or I might think some here are birdbrained! :^)

I thought you don’t approve of making fun of people.

Joe - I’m confused. I thought Genesis 1 made it pretty clear what God created on which day, and Man was last (except for woman), created on the 6th day.

I think Joe has a iffy translation sometimes myself, Idy. Genesis starts out with an overview of events in 1 and then goes to details in 2. Even the details seem to be “condensed” simply because it isn’t a science book or even a “history” in the sense of later sections. It never says “day” means day, though it certainly could have. It never says GOD DIDN’T use evolution, though it isn’t nearly as proven as so many “scientists-who-are-really-naturalist-priests” pretend. And the science it does reveal actually becomes more accurate the more we know. The serpent was more likely a dinosaur based on the fact it is later referred to as a dragon when connected with Satan in the NT. As for talking trees, I’ve never seen that translation though Joe might refer to the gnostic myths.

The only two trees mentioned specifically are the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Make for an interesting date since the fruit of the latter led to death. Might not cross-pollinate very well.

I think I may need to see Lewreader’s shrink. I never saw the face in the tree on the left, until _TheWildSow pointed out that “Clyde” is the name of the tree, not of the snake!

Idyhwkd, it’s Joe who’s confused, as he often is on what the Bible says. Joe, I don’t mean that as a difference of opinion or to make fun of you, simply as a statement of fact. You don’t know how to apply the principle of Isaiah 28:9-13. Moreover, you don’t understand how Biblical Hebrew narrative works. You’ve demonstrated this more than once.

Genesis 1:1-2:3 deals with creation in chronological order, as is evident from the use of the “sequential ‘and’” (so prominent in the KJV in translation: “and” attached to a verb). Genesis 2:4f and chapter 3 deal with creation, and its aftermath, by making action the framework of time (which is normal for Hebrew and other ancient languages) rather than vice versa (which is normal for English). Not everything that happens in chapter 2 is chronological or is meant to be.

The reconciliation concerning Adam and Eve is simple. Both were created on the sixth day, and Genesis 1:25ff deals with that action. Genesis 2 deals with how and why, and with the time order. God did not create the animals as a whole on the sixth day; rather, He formed some of them specially from the dust of the ground, in addition, to bring to Adam and to make a point to him.

    Context, Joe, CONTEXT.

I think someone tried to e-limb-inate a problem on the right tree. Which seems to be the tree of life. Or something.

Sad to say, I seem to be late for new faces. Unless there is one in and near the roots of the right-hand tree, and maybe another in the little branch of leaves at the far right level with the snake’s head.

And, I gotta say, that is one looooooooooooooooooooooooong snake! (Heh heh! I didn’t want to exxagerate or anything.)

JOE Glad to hear you say it. It was oral till written (redundant Lew here) The same goes for the New Testament which wasn’t put to paper for100 years after everyone who knew Jesus was dead. I choose to believe the main ideas. If Sodom was the lesser evil, I don’t need a biblical scholar to tell me what they did in Gomorrah. some other biblical scholar would say “No, what they did in Gomorrah was worse.”These two scholars can write conflicting books, but it doesn’t matter.

Half the population of Ireland were murdered by the English in the mid-nineteenth century because the Irish believed wine turned to blood during Mass. Three religions springing from Abraham are murdering each other in the Middle East

I thought religion was meant to bring Man together, not divide.Joe called me a nut for claiming to be a Big Endian while he was a little Endian. Reread Swift. He wasn’t only talking about the “Irish Problem”

Joe, self-appointed expert on all things religious, if the whole book of Genesis is based on oral history, why are you both refering to it and making it sound like it is wrong?

What makes you assume that our Supreme Leader of the Birdbrains, would be so ungracious and mean and sanctimonious as to make fun of his devoted readers, Joe?

Our Supreme Leader of the Birdbrains generously devotes his talent, time and sense of humor to entertaining us and bringing joy into the world. It is a great gift he gives us.

    Birdbrainiacs Alert!

First, in the beginning there were thanks… and thanks were good. So, Thank You all for the nice comments.

Second, I had no idea there would be any debate about two talking trees in the Garden of Eden. I think God probably made more than juse a tree of knowledge and a tree of life. And I think there were other “serpents.” Probably lots of all kinds of stuff… I purposely (thanks bmonk for noticing!) added a very lonnnnnnnnnng snake (practically braided) just to give context to the Garden, but there is no telling if this was before or after Adam and Eve, so so much of this discussion seems overly analytical.

For my cartoons, please don’t try to dissect them. Everytime a frog gets dissected, it dies; so I’d really appreciate it if we could all just try to find the fun in the funny.

Joe, come on - it’s wonderful to be so knowledgeable and erudite regarding all things, but… uh… er… um… this is a cartoon! It’s not really meant to be the beginning of a political or biblical or scientific debate. It’s only meant to make you laugh - at least that’s what I try to do with my cartoons.

Comedy is usually based on poking fun at something, but always in “good humor.” If I offend anyone while poking fun at someone or something, that’s just a bonus (just kidding).

LuvH8 - you are wise. Thank you for your contribution!! I’m still working on some ideas for your toon…

Hopefully, this has offended someone new. If not, I apologize - I do my best.

Oh, and LadyWolf - thank you for the kind words!

And thanks for reading this offensive, biblically-challenged cartoon! :)

    Lew -

You’re welcome. I hoped the envelope would give you evidence to take to a which doctor - so he/she could tell you which ailment you have. :)

You are fun and funny! Thank you, Lew! And thanks for your comments about the biblical debate. Jeesh, do we really have to get so serious about a cartoon? Anyway, whatever. I hope you enjoy your toon.
