I guess their diet varies with location and subspecies. Where I reside, they are winter migrants and are known as “duck hawks” because of their penchant for taking waterfowl that are also winter migrants as well as mourning doves. Here, the small birds are in more danger from Sharp-shinned or Cooper’s hawks.
