My folks recently invested in one of these, and I got to use it to mow the lawn as a favor to my dad. It’s definitely got a lot of thrust power in it, but I also know that should something like what’s shown here happens, it’d just keep going straight until it ran into something it couldn’t mow over and get stuck.
So no, likely no ricocheting off of lawn gnomes (though it’s still amusing to picture)

The manufacturer probably expected that the user would be able to hold on to their own arms.
