The first "Babe Ruth Day" took place on April 27, 1947 when "the Sultan of Swat" appeared before a crowd of nearly 60,000 at Yankee Stadium to be honored for his contributions to baseball. Ruth, who partied just as hard as he hit 714 home runs during his 22-season career, was in the throes of cancer treatment and would pass away the following year.

But legends never really die, do they?

I mean, yes, they absolutely die, but they also get a bunch of comics made referencing them since their names are iconic and synonymous with things like success. Here, for example, are a bunch of strips and cartoons referencing the Great Bambino decades later!
