World Toilet Day is a call for improved sanitation for all, which is a conscientious goal. If you've ever spent any time in a restroom, the notion of an unsanitary space is definitely not arresting. Plus, wanting to avoid a bowl is completely avoidable.

Toilets, waste systems, and sanitary behaviors like handwashing have a huge impact on disease prevention. Without them, we'd be circling the drain -- especially dogs, who would have nowhere to erroneously drink from. That's why the United Nations thinks it's worth considering that many around the world go without some or all of the above.
