In 1985 Halley was on the far side of the sun when closest. In 1910 earth went right through the tail. But most people don’t remember Halley from 1910, but rather, the Great Comet of 1910, which won’t be back in human existence.
I was so excited waiting for Haley. It came in as dim star with a tiny tail. It passed around the sun and left as a ball of dim fuzz. So disappointed . I was watching one night and a shooting star flew over. Seemed a hundred times brighter than Haley.
Hale-Bopp…I’d almost forgotten that comet. I remember it more for the group of nutjobs who killed themselves so they could join the flying saucers at the center of the comet, or whatever it was they were predicting.

I remember reading this and realizing how well it categorized the molehill that was the return of Halley’s comet.

I too was disappointed by Halley’s however I did get to see Hale -Bopp for quite a while. I thought it kind of made up for Halley’s.

Halley’s next visit will also be rather nondescript, but the following one will be spectacular. I can’t wait!

Didn’t anyone here (except Opus) notice the spaceship landing?! Geesh! Science guys can’t see the big because they’re concentrating on the small….
